Nope! Mermay is not a dA group
Mermay is an artistic worldwide event for the month of may, obviously, based on mermaids
There are a lot of events like these ones, for example Inktober or Sketchtember, where you can choose a list of themes (official or not, it doesn't matter) and everyday you draw something different based on the theme of the day.
For example the "Electric" mermaid that you like done by me: for the day 27 of may the theme was "electric", and i drew the mermaid as a fan of the AC/DC band
Every year, every month, there are a lot of challenges like these. And you can decide to join them everyday or not. It's not necessary to be in the right month
You are free to do whatever you want but dont' forget to add the right hashtags!

Anyway i think that this month is the month of the robots! March of Robots challenge.
Yes, challenges can be a little stressful but very funny.
In any case you have the school now, you have to study, so you will have in the future the time for doing these things
Or maybe you can pick just one theme of a single challenge that you like from time to time and try to develop only that theme with no stress, taking your time. It's just an idea for talking
It's not a rule to follow for every artist to partecipate those challenges! You are free to do whatever you want

Great colors, I love the way you've drawn his scales, and the tail is amazing! His head-tendrils make me think about Medusa, just a little, so perhaps this merman and his people are where that legend originally came from? Is the eel he's holding actually trying to attack him, or is it just trying to look fierce? Maybe he plays a game with it where they pretend to fight, but neither ever really gets hurt.
