i decided to post this because i need a little feedback from people other than my teacher and ego hungry peers. (perks of an art school lol)i'm a junior taking an AP drawing class, and part of the requirements is having a concentration, or a series of one theme of studies, for end of the year portfolio. i originally described mine as the study of skin tones, and making a figure resemble a random organic object. (animal, fruit, plant, etc.) but after receiving my mock college board grading papers, many of the graders said that they had no idea what my concentration means and that, basically, it is not cohesive. i received all 2's, which is extremely upsetting because the scale goes from 1-6.
i'm thinking of changing to whole premise of my concentration to just the study of skintones, but that subject is broad and unoriginal.
these are 6 out of 10 pieces i've done so far. the one with the black lady is my most recent piece, and i think my most developed piece.
the top left is supposed to resemble a plum, the one underneath is a gecko, the one underneath is a giraffe. the top right are blueberry people, underneath are peach babies, and last is my eggplant lady and baby. the other ones i have done but are not shown are dried apricot men, baby bird men, and something i cant rememeber. i'm working on watermelon woman right now.
i would love any critiques or feedback, thanks!

I feel like it wasn't perceived too well simply because "objects" is very vague and broad in itself.
Perhaps limiting to just animals..or just fruit might have helped.
Its just hard to come up with a theme if it's too broad.
I do enjoy this concept though, you are fantastic at color. The shines on the skin make me want to touch these to see if these are real people.

Is this the only art class you take? Or are you actually going as an art major?

well i'm only in highschool so i'm not yet quite an art major, but I guess you could say I am because I'm in the visual arts cluster. (i go to a performing and visual arts highschool so we audition for either theatre, visual arts, dance, or music.)
this year i'm taking life drawing, painting and AP drawing. i hate painting because its all very verrry boring foundation work. but in life drawing we draw people and animals which is super fun, and in AP drawing I basically do whatever i want.
next year i plan on taking graphic design, AP 2D design, printmaking, and AP photography. (AP since I took photo last year)

yea it's pretty fun!!! i think there are only 5 in the U.S. right now but i really hope more pop up in the future!
i like drawing a lot more because I feel like I actually put effort into creating work + you can do it anytime. but with photography, you just have to get a good shot at the right moment + it was more of a blow off class to me. although, i'm pretty handy when it comes to photoshop and everyone comes to me when they need help hahahah!

Sound ssuper neat, I wish we had specialized high schools more.
We have a high tech high, which is technology based.. Bit its really the only thing close to specialization.

I'm not one for photography. I like to capture pictures, but I don't really seek to capture some meaningful sunset or anything.
