I've been thinking about this, without darkness there would be no light. Everything would be neutral. We need bad things to happen so the good things shine even brighter. We can't survive without something bad happening, and then something good happens, and it helps so much.
Mark here has black blood, a constant reminder of what he went through. He came out though, and he came out scarred, but alive. He had a different look on things, and he used his point of view to help people. He still gets overwhelmed sometimes, and when he does, the black blood starts flowing from his eyes and mouth. He can't help this, but he wouldn't trade his past and risk being different in the present.
