Susan would sometimes sit on the grass close to a large tree with a swing, feeling overwhelmed or frustrated after getting bullied by girls at her school because of her interest in locomotive trains and wanting to become an inventor, which wasn't always a common interest for a little girl at the time.

Susan goes to an All-Girl school called "Brendam School" which is around Edward's branch line on the southwest of the island.

The girls in her classroom would sometimes judge her, Susan would ignore their comments and whenever they try poking her.

Edward, one of her father's engines would always cheer Susan up whenever she would tell him what happened after school, Susan was afraid to tell her father her situation yet so she would ask Edward for advice first. Edward would tell her to not be bothered by people if they bullied her because bullies would someday get their karma. Edward understands Susan and he went through a similar case where the engines would tease Edward for being old and outdated or call him "Old Iron".

The girls in her school would also bully or tease other kids but the other kids were too scared to confront them and only Susan manage to be the only one, Susan was tired of girls fooling around others, it happened after one of the girls started pulling Susan's hair at class to try to get her attention, Susan finally steps up and tell the girls to stop what they're doing. One of the leaders of the girls felt embarrassed and got mad at Susan after confronting them, the girl started to pick a fight with Susan, Susan would defend herself, she would never harm other kids but at the end of the scene, Susan ran out from school until she reaches her safety spot on a hill and let out a cry.

Susan got in trouble for skipping class 3 times and her father would get worried, he knew Susan was hiding something and is afraid of telling him, her father being very considerate doesn't force Susan and would always tell her that he was always there for her if anything's troubling her.

While Susan goes to that safe spot in the field, a boy about her age came from another school and walks by to ask if Susan was alright. The boy's name is Evan, he would also sometimes visit the same spot as Susan whenever he wants to be alone or read books. Eventually, he and Susan started getting along when Evan found sketches and pictures of the locomotives in Susan's notebook, it turns out, he was also interested in them, Evan wants to work at the Railway when he grows up. Evan is a smart boy who always loves reading and doing loves inventing things. He was the boy that made the swing around the tree, Susan was very lucky to meet him, she manage to make a friend and every day after school she would be happy to see him and tell him about her father working on a railway and driving an engine.
