Roberts is a consummate screw up, but an honest fighter and worker. Despite being involved in open combat on several occasions, the most prominent being the STAR engagement in New York City in 3239, He has never recorded any active kills, either proving himself unlucky, or outright avoiding a fight. Despite this, he scores quite well on physical training and weapons drilling, making his apparent squeamishness a bit of a mystery.

His promotion to Corporal in the RAF is based nearly solely on his technical expertise, and like it or not, his time under fire. On many occasions, his superiors have noted his constant mistakes, though generally not extreme enough to result in endangerment of his colleagues. His application to the STARs, the Special Tactics And Response unit of the RAF, founded under joint agreement with the Unified Earth Government in 3238 saw him training along with many other RAF soldiers under Human drill instructors, molding him into something special. Chief Petty Officer Lorenzo, one of his immediate trainers, expressed confusion at how someone so smart could have so many foul ups, and he was nearly rolled over in his class. The change came when he was put under extreme stress when he could think straight. Unfortunately, Roberts did not meet his first physical training qualification time for his Long Run, resulting in a performance roll. His second class however resulted in a successful passing after another six month course, with the actual graduation occurring after STAR intervention in the assault on the UEG Government Building to remove Troy Marshall from his illegitimate presidency.

In 3240, Roberts was selected for a mission to the planet Egarda in the UEG's universe under the explicit request of Princess Sally Acorn, confusing the STAR as to why someone like him would have been personally requested by someone so important. His mission on Egarda proved to be more than what he had expected.

STAR uniforms take trappings of their RAF loadouts with more influence from Humans as the years go by. The helmet being one of the newer additions to the Kingdom's supplies, specially crafted for Mobians to accommodate a large variety of skull shapes and ear sizes. Twin vents on the side of the helmet allow for ventilation. Models rated for vacuum exposure however do not possess the vent, requiring suit life support to regulate temperature.

STAR bulletproof vests are studded with MOLLE points, allowing for the trooper to latch on whatever is required for the operation. Generally though, a standard Type-1 Harness is worn over the vest which clips into a standard RAF ruck.
