A few users use "mercoot" for characters with heads, torsos, and arms of bandicoots, and tails of marine animals.

For me, this is a misnomer. Why? Because coots are a species of waterbird, endemic to many regions, including my own.

Merbandy, on the other hand, rolls right off the tongue.

Crash, here in merbandy form, spots a mercoot that wants to eat him for lunch, and scrambles to get away.
