I love night photos with lights.
I plan to start playing with some next month. Got any tips?

Well I'm far tobe an expert but I'll tell you what I know.(I hope my english won't ruineverything)

First it's desirable that you take a tripod with you to minimize vibrations.

However if you want an effect I've obtained here: [link] you can forget about tripod. I was intentionally moving my camera, magnifying and changing focus. To do tha you will need high shutter speed and low ISO.
I love this kind of photos. They are always so much fun

Thanks!

I would have thought I'd want a lower shutter speed. Never really considered a higher one.
For the focus could I just change the zoom? I have a profession point and shoot. It doesn't really focus as it should.
