Description So.

I have decided to start sharing some of my lighting techniques. For what it's worth and when it's worth it.

This shot was lit using a 65W Ring Light. This one , to be more specific. I had it about half a meter (about 19", if I'm not mistaken?) from the model and I was shooting at quite a shallow depth of field and ISO 400 to get a decent exposure. At 65W, it’s not a very strong light, but I LOVE the effect it gives!

Behind her I had two speed lights - one pointing right onto the grey wall (quite close to it) and the other pointing at the back of her head. I gelled the second light orange with cellophane.

The two speed lights were powered down quite a bit, because they are so close to her. I could have gone a few more stops down, to be honest. There are some blown out parts in the hair. So we learn

Critique: (Yeah I'm sorry but I don't have a Permium Membership so I couldn't press that lovely button up top).
I think you should try doing black and white portraits (at least with this one). To me the colours take too much attention from the light. If you had it in black and white then it would show your technique off way more than in colour. Also, maybe change the clothing? A leather jacket with a white shirt underneath possibly? If you wanted a softer feel to it then you should've went for a knitted jacket or shirt with a scarf. And by the way....short hair is bloody amazing

I actually had it in black and white at one point, but I like the colors.
