Gnooroop is me. Of the dozens of characters I've developed over the years, he has the deepest and most involved backstory, mostly because his life, at least in broad strokes, is analogue to the path of my own—albeit in much more interesting and fantastic ways...though, admittedly, his origin story is not well anchored in my own experience, but I invented him when I was like 12, so sue me.
For all intents and purposes, this is a self-portrait...

Gnooroop was born on the "forbidden continent" of Terra Nefasia. His childhood was fairly checkered. Death, abandonment, love, destiny, royalty...pretty boring, really.
It was in his mid 20s that he finally grew weary of all the pain and penury magic had wrought on his land and its people. Through his friendship with the well-traveled Captain Byron von Himmel, he heard many a tale of an outside world where magic didn't exist—at least not with the ubiquity found in his homeland—and so he chartered a flight aboard the HMAS Loftwing, and left his land behind.
His elation upon arrival in the Victorian Capital of Alexandria was short-lived. As he went through customs, he was immediately flagged as being "of suspicious origins" due to a suspicious tattoo on his right arm. As he was ushered away by men in suits, he lost his patience and revealed his own supernatural abilities to engineer a dramatic escape—sadly, not before he was collared and gassed by the mysterious men.
As he soared over the rooftops of Alexandria, his wits failed him, and he fell.
When he woke, he found himself under the protection of one Davis Thorne, an enigmatic but good-natured man in charge of an even more enigmatic organization. Impressed by Gnooroop's display in his short time on Victorian shores, Davis offered him amnesty and a home in exchange for lending his talents to the Bureau.
Gnooroop accepted. The story from there? Well...that's still unfolding.
