Ninako was the only daughter in a family of five brothers. Born into a tremendously conservative and patriarchal home, from the start she never had the opportunity to stand out.
From an early age, she was obliged to attend a wide variety of activities and classes so that her education would be equal to that of a high-born lady. Despite the girl’s great efforts to make her parents proud, one by one, she failed at all the things she had set herself to do.
She had a poor memory, her body was thin and weak, she had no artistic talent of any kind, and her social skills were below average. She was a failure.
Her family’s response to this was forcing her to do twice or sometimes three times as much work as her siblings. She didn’t go out, she didn’t have hobbies, sometimes she didn’t even eat.
Over time she began to improve slightly, however, by the time she began to meet certain expectations, her parents were no longer interested in what she did or did not do.
They’d given up any chance of having the daughter they wanted.
While she struggled to improve little by little, her older siblings leaped forward with no effort at all, receiving every praise from her parents.

This whole situation led her to have Imposter Syndrome. She was never good enough for anyone, if she did something right it was because she had somehow cheated if someone treated her well it was because they didn’t know what a failure she was
Her family situation was also reflected at school, where Ninako would do whatever her classmates asked with the sole intention of feeling accepted and valid.

Seldom she would surprisingly begin a normal friendship, however, soon after starting to get along nicely, Ninako would panic. She would feel that she wasn’t worthy of the other person, she would feel that she didn’t deserve to be with them and yet she would become completely dependent and extremely jealous. Over time her toxic attitudes made people unwilling to approach her.

At the age of 18, she was walking with her headphones on and her phone in hand, constantly checking the university’s website to see if she had passed the entrance exam.
She was crossing the train tracks to head for the exit when the results finally appeared.

Loud music did not stop the beating of her heart from rumbling in her ears. Her eyes looked at the list at full speed. Her hands were shaking. There was no way she could hear the train beeping.

"My name...is not there. I failed"

That was the last thing she said before the train ran over her. And she was dead.

Karate: She has been taking classes since she was very little. She was about to take her brown belt exam when she died.

Shamisen: It is a family tradition that the youngest of the family learn to play at least one traditional instrument.

Horse riding: It was one of the things she hated the most as a child. She's not good at it but she has some knowledge.

Flowers and herbs: She knows the names of the most typical plants in her area. She can also detect more or less if a plant is poisonous observing its appearance. She makes some good tea as well.

Manners and etiquette: Due to the strict education she has received at home, Ninako has a perfect knowledge of how to behave like

a high-born lady. From the way she walks to how she speaks or eats, her posture and image are perfect.

Fast and agile: Her slim figure plus the training she has received since an early age make her a really fast person. She is in complete control of her body and she can reach great speeds if she sets her mind to it.

Kyudo: As with karate and music, young Kurosawa, like her brothers, was forced to take kyudo classes. Her aim isn’t very good, and her stand is the worst in her family. However, over the past few years she has improved slightly and now she’s able to hit targets at a certain distance as long as they are not moving.

Cooking: Being the only woman in a patriarchal family, she was always expected to learn how to cook. It is one of the few talents that Ninako has, as she is able to make really delicious and nutritious food. It is also one of her favorite hobbies, since the only times she has received praise from her parents has been when she made a good dish.

Sewing: The situation from above again. Despite being a wealthy lady, her parents insisted that she should learn to sew and weave to maintain the family tradition that, if she were to marry someone, Ninako should be the one to sew her own wedding’s kimono.

History: It’s not her strongest point but when you’ve been studying a subject for so many years, you end up learning whether you want to or not. And in Ninako’s case, she’s always worked hard to learn even if she wasn’t good at it.

She is no expert, but she has basic knowledge of wars, customs, dress and etiquette... that sort of thing.
