Description
The world of Pokemon is a strange place.

It's filled with extraordinary creatures that command extraordinary powers but even when you start at such a level there is farther to go.

Most Pokemon are not quite up to par with humans. All but a few species serve as the animals of the world and so their powers can be manipulated towards different intents. Every region has a less than clean organization working in the shadows but most people just turn a blind eye. Either that or they're well hidden from more prying ones.

Situated far off the coast and into a vast ocean there is a tiny island. Just a speck of land not even recorded on the most detailed map for it's tiny size. There's barely any life. Just a few sparse grasses and low lying bushes dot the sandy ground here and there and a beetle or two skitters by their roots.

The only thing about this island is the door. Just a door. The island itself is practically a central hill with ten or so feet stretching out from the slope to the shore and built into it is a metal door. Among a city filled with towering building, busy people, and noisy roadways you would pass right by it. But on a barren speck of an island it's not so inconspicuous.

The door is about six feet tall with a smooth, shining, silver surface and no visible doorknob, latch, or any other means to open it. Unless you count the keypad that is. A little square shaped configuration of buttons is set alongside the door and serves as the first line of defense to any unwanted company. If you know the code however you are rewarded with a bright ping as the lone door swings open.

Stepping past the threshold lands you in an elevator with only one clear button to push. The elevator is a cool, silent space except for the quiet humming of the fluorescent light above and after sliding downward for what seems like an eternity the doors finally part.

A endlessly long hallway is what greets any visitor from the outside. Smooth gray walls that feel like ice to the touch run parallel to each other occasionally dipping inward as they branch of to new hallways or doors. Most of the thick steel doors are protected by other keypads and don't appear particularly interesting. If you follow the hallway further and further back however you will eventually come to the center of what this place is there for.

Down, down, down you have to go the air getting noticeably chilly as you head deeper under what has to be the surrounding ocean at this point. Until you reach your destination.

The room itself is not protected by another door to make the constant entering and exiting of people easier but it is huge and breathtaking none the less.

A laboratory.

Blinking, whirring, humming, clicking machines cover every inch of wall and people in long white coats hurrying between them scribbling notes on pads, twisting dials, and pushing buttons as they go. But that's not the main attraction.

Towards the back of the long room something unlike anything the world has ever seen is happening. Dozens of white-coated people are crowding around what appears to be a tall, plexi-glass tube filled with pale green liquid... and a motionless form bobbing inside.

It was dark... But then again it always had been. No light, no sounds, no sensations except a comforting warmth and the barely noticeable current of liquid. He was an experiment in the making. Born but not yet developed and blind to anything outside his solitary tube.

Suddenly something changed. A light buzzing echoed around him and he felt his muscles twitch in response; sound. The first of his five senses was being coaxed into existence, soon to be followed by the others. His ears rotated and flicked to gather as much as possible from the foreign buzzing and it was curiosity that slitted his eyes open. Light immediately seared into his sensitive eyes but he didn't stop. Shapes and faces moved in a blur outside the tube and he blinked as he greedily swept his gaze this way and that to explore his new found sense; sight.

The buzzing picked up in volume and was soon accompanied by a rushing sound as the clear tube began to slowly lift upward letting the greenish fluid flow out. The nameless experiment began to descend with it and quite suddenly the tube lifted all the way up dropping him and the rest of the liquid onto the metal base. He whined as the sudden force jarred his nerves to life; touch. He could feel the now slippery metal beneath him and the wetness of his fur clinging to his shivering body. He felt like his mind was being overtaken by this barrage of new sensations especially when a bit of the liquid dribbled into his mouth and he tasted the slight sweetness on his tongue; taste.

More out of instinct than conscious thought he willed his muscled to work heaving himself to his paws. He was swaying unsteadily but standing all the same and he could see satisfaction, excitement, and contempt on the faces of the humans before him.

A few of the scientists hurriedly checked nearby monitors while other reached forward plucking suction cup wires off his wet skin. Words like success and specimen 54 drifted to his mobile ears as he continued to stand on his gradually strengthening legs.

His gaze continued to roam around the gigantic room before settling on something a few feet off to his left. The side of a large metal contraption faced him and in the smooth surface he saw his reflection for the first time. Short, stocky legs, tapered black stripes on his legs and back, a creamy puff of a tail, floppy, puppy-like ears, visible claws, and noticeably sharp canines. A Growlithe... with stone gray fur and bright green eyes.
