Pidgey, though small and docile, are not often an item of prey in their environment. That's because would-be predators are torn to bloody shreds by Pidgey's vigilantΒ & evolved parents.ΒI don't own Pokemon, etc.

But you can't read too far into Pokemon biology without coming across the moral issue of capturing them.

I mean... It's not that bad. According with the official lore, the function of a pokeball is to transmit to the captured pokemon your sense of friendship and how eager you are to be his friend. If the pokemon breaks out, that means that you don't want to be his friend hard enough.
Then there is the weakening and the Master Ball and such...
