They are pixelled, meaning drawn dot by dot. I generally collect a few images of a flower from different perspectives and combine them in my head to get an angle that I think I can best represent the flower at this size. I use PaintShop Pro and a mouse to draw.

After all, this one I like the most, because the bow of the little one seems to be just more appropriate than any words I could find...

It's really fascinating how naturally your flowers come out

I collect about 4 to 6 photos of the flower I want to pixel (sometimes my own), then use elements from each such as petal shape/position to get the "pose". I think the trickiest part is selecting the right pallet. After pixelling the outline, the time consuming task of placing the right colored pixel to give the impression of detail is done. This one took me about 4 hours.
