His face is very difficult to made: the texture of his coat is too hard to reproduce ...He is awesome and his gaze seems so real and his nose so well done
Do you think that I have to use a 7B pencil instead of a 2B for portraits? (I use a 2B pencil but I iron it several times )
I find it hard to darken my drawings , like in this portrait gigi28.deviantart.com/art/inte… , because everything in the right side of the cheek is jet black in the real picture. Also, do you think I transcribed the emotion in her eyes?
I'm always afraid when the phase shading clothes began especially the effect of drapery, and texture, light ...

so, I dont know even with what to start. I had a journal entry how to draw, so i will modify it according to your drawing with some tips and advices. Dont be scared.
Pencils: use also hard pencils. Hard pencils are used for light shading. Soft pencils are used for shadow shading. light also should be shaded. any place without shading cannot be left on the paper. Exceptions: highlights. THis is not light. This is the brightest places on the object which you are drawing. they can be the most close places to the source of light or if a subject is glossy, then these are something like reflections on the part which is not in a shadow.
Soft pencils are used for making dark places which cannot be made by hard pencils. The darkest places should be different kinds of holes, but never whole shadows. The darkest place in the shadow is a hole, the border of shadow. Also, the closest shadows to the source of light will be generally darker than those which are more far away. so, if you are drawing a falling shadow of a hut of Johnny, make the border of this shadow darker than its middle part, and shadows on the background make softer, not so black.
one more important thing is that forget about using your fingers to spread pencil around your work. Normally people use for this purpose napkins or other things, but it is better not to use finger, because you might like to do it. I use my fingers only when the shading is too harsh, when I want kinda soften it.
for shading, I prefer cross hatching. You can see it in my works. it is more classical. lines are not supposed to be straight. cross hatching is used for different purposes. to show the shape also (when you are shading a sphere you need to show that it is round). for sketch you can use different kinds of shading, actually what is easier for you. but cross hatching looks nice and professional, but it comes with time.
So, pay attention to the shadows - their intensity and technical way of doing them. Pay also attention to how to shadow forms, (right now it is already good ) and how to shadow light, it is also important.
I wish you good luck with your works.
Take care,
Ilona
