Personality

 Selfless | Forgiving | Perceptive

    ·         Having travelled to various countries and seen the livelihood and diversity of many communities, Wren grew to be quite empathetic. When a need presents itself, Wren will often try to help in anyway he can; even at great personal cost. He’s the type of person who will climb a mountain for a complete stranger and is, therefore, easy to take advantage of.

    ·         Such compassion has been taken advantage of before, but Wren is always willing to forgive. Deprived of the opportunity to make many friends or acquaintances, Wren values the few he has and tries not to let grudges get in the way of those relationships.

    ·         As an artist, Wren is very perceptive. He often notices the little details that others tend to overlook. He was particularly good at games like ‘Where’s Wally’ as a young child. His mother thinks he’d make a good detective, but he’s not particularly interested in solving crimes.

 Patient | Quiet | Adaptive

    ·         Being the son of an Archaeologist taught Wren that patience is always more rewarding. Unlike the movies, field work did not include raising the dead or caverns of gold with spike traps. Wren often spent hours on sites with nothing to do while waiting for his mother to finish work.

    ·         Being home-schooled meant that Wren didn’t have many people his own age to talk to. As a result, he became quite reserved. He is soft spoken and never raises his voice when he speaks. Most people have to lean closer to hear him properly as he speaks barely above a whisper

    ·         Travelling around the world, has forced Wren to be quite adaptable. He had to get used to unfamiliar foods and places. Because of this, he is not a picky eater and quite tolerant of different environments and temperatures.

 Shy | Self Critical| Gullible

    ·         Not staying in the same place for long left little time to make friends. Wren was often too shy to approach local children his age mostly because of language barriers and differences in culture. His quiet nature also didn’t help and contributed to his reluctance to talk to others. Real people can be somewhat scary, so he prefers to spend time with his sketchbook.

    ·         As most artists are, he is overly critical of his work. He constantly compares his art to professionals with 10 or more years of experience; he knows it’s stupid. This trait does motivate him to work harder but more than often disheartens him and makes him feel as if he’ll never be good enough. He can’t help but fail to see his own improvement.

    ·         Because he never had many friends his own age, he is somewhat naïve to many social scenarios. Along with his forgiving nature, he can be lead to believe almost anything; including that a person who took advantage of his compassion has changed their ways. He’d probably believe that unicorns exist too if someone made claim to have seen one.

History:

    ·         Wren’s birth was not planned for. His mother was too young and a career minded woman. As an archaeologist she often travelled places she couldn’t bring a young child and spent months away from her home, in England, at a time. These lengthy absences took a toll on her marriage and she eventually divorced her husband.

    ·         She met her second husband while guest speaking at a university in Japan. At the time, Wren was 11 and soon had his name changed to that of his new step dad. He got along well with his step dad but always felt a little distant, knowing his real dad was still in England with another wife and children of his own.

    ·         Because of his mother’s occupation, Wren has lived in many countries around the world and can speak several languages but has never stayed in one place long enough to settle down. This greatly impacted his social life and he found that he didn’t really have any friends; save a few he occasionally corresponded with by email. Additionally, the constant traveling disrupted his study and he often fell behind his class and had to repeat the 10th grade. However most of his education was home-schooled.

    ·         Feeling guilty for Wren’s upbringing, his mother never had another child; leaving Wren without siblings to divide his mother’s love. As a result, she loved to spoil him and bought him everything he ever wanted. He almost never heard the word ‘no’. However, the one thing he truly wanted was to settle down and live a normal life. Not wanting to burden his parents or impede his mother’s lifestyle, he applied for a boarding school named “Crowhaven” as an attempt to settle down and make friends he won’t have to move away from.

    ·         Art became a huge part of Wren’s life and was somewhat of an emotional outlet for him. It was also the perfect solution to passing time in obscure locations without technology or friends to hang out with. He also used it to document the places he travelled to, in place of photographs, and often drew for long hours.

    ·         During his teenage years, art became more than a hobby and something he wanted to pursue seriously. He began to draw more often and for longer hours; often losing track of time. After a few months he noticed pains in his wrist and shoulder. After seeking medical advice when the pain became a daily nuisance, he discovered he had overworked himself. He had developed a repetitive strain injury and was advised to restrain himself from drawing and using his wrist and shoulder where possible. He continues to struggle with this advice as art is almost like a drug to him and he's very much addicted.

Upon being accepted to Crowhaven:

When the much-anticipated letter arrived, Wren was preparing to accompany his mother on yet another work trip. Luckily the letter had arrived early, and his step father had gone to check the mail before they left. Now, in a rare moment, they all sat around the barely used lounge room, eagerly awaiting the contents of the letter. Wren pried open the envelope with some trepidation. He slowly unfolded the letter he found within and read aloud the contents.

“Congratulations, you have been awarded a spot at Crowhaven Academy.”

As the words left his lips, a wide grin spread across his face. He’d made it in.
