Description Explanation: This piece was designed as a proposed CD packaging design for the Swedish electronic group, The Knife. The Knife's sound is both gritty and clean at the same time, with dark orchestral sounds constantly throbbing in a continuous melody. I choose the dark, space like imagery to reflect their sound and also in response to the title of the CD, "Silent Shout." For me, this title evoked a sense of inner restraint. I choose to reflect this in the design of the packaging by having almost complete darkness in each image with one beam of light emitting from the absence of light, symbolizing a silent shout. While the imagery is important to the design, the packaging layout is also crucial to the packaging as a whole. I opted to create a unique CD booklet in the shape of triangle going back to the name of the band. I also hand bound the booklet to keep the clean aesthetic I was hoping to achieve.

It looks great. I especially like the last picture, whihc I think is of the back cover, because of how it's mainly black but then there's that outburst of vibrant color, goes well with the "silent shout" title.

Is this for graphic design or illustration? I noticed you go to RISD (tis my top choice, and am almost in completion of sending all my stuff in). I'm thinking about being an illustration major and was just wondering if these are the types of projects you do.

Well, this is more of a Graphic Design project, but it is an Illustration class. I am a freshmen so I don't really know what Illustration majors do. There is a large range, and I am sure you could take a packaging course as a Illustration major, but that's more a GD type assignment. Good luck getting in, make sure to explain your slides really well and take good photos of your work. Hope to see you here

I see, sweet. And thanks! Is the foundation year as hard/insane as I've heard? I went to precollege and I never slept and I hear foundation is 3 times as much work. I mean I'm totally up for it, though I would like to maintain somewhat of a sane state.

Sorry for all the questions just excitedd
