Henna applied by me on my own hand! Photo also taken by me.
Done: Nov 15th, 2011, just cause I'm a maniac who applies henna on herself at midnight rather than just getting a midnight snack
The basis of the design was copied from Deviant Jaewalker's deviation : fav.me/d25xt4z
The further modifications are just doodles I came up with !

Henna (Lawsonia inermis, also called mignonette tree) is a flowering plant used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, fingernails, leather and wool. It is a paste which is applied to the body and washed off a few hours later, leaving a temporary tattoo on the skin. Henna has been used to adorn young women's bodies as part of social and holiday celebrations since the late Bronze Age in the eastern Mediterranean.

Hello !
I would love to try out henna and try to get into it... but i have a few questions before I dive in. (:
1. Which is better to buy (pricewise)... Premixed henna ink or the powder and mix yourself?
2. Which is easier... Premixed henna ink or the powder and mixing yourself?
3. Is there any good online sites that are better pricing for either premixed or powder?

1.I have only used the prepared cone henna so I wouldn't know. Sorry!

Hehe I sure am excited tooo! I have got a few hours until its ready to be put together to actually use!
The kit came with henna powder and an oil and some toothpicks,application bottle, and instructions how to make it.
I already mixed the powder and water, then waited 12 hours.
And just now I mixed that mixture with the oil and have to wait until 5pm when I can do the rest of the instructions (:

hey so you inspired me completely and i went to the local indian grocery store and bought some henna. i drew on my arm and i left it on for like 9 hours and it isn't that dark. do you apply it thick? or thin? and do you use that lemon sugar mix to keep it moist? and how do you not get blotchy spots from moving?

aww hehe ^_^ its pretty cool you actually applied it on yourself!
9 hours is a good enough duration to keep it on, and I apply it so its not too thick and too thin either :too thick= FAT design
and yes! i did use the lemon/sugar mixture trick once, just to try it out..but i cant say that it really helps ..Im not sure. I even sponge on some mustard oil sometimes cause I've heard it helps improve the color. But you must know that the darkness of the henna tattoo depends greatly on the Quality of the henna itself. So, I can tell you I've been disappointed ALOT with inferior henna pastes, cause not all of them bring out the best stain.
you mentioned blotchy spots. the henna becomes dry and solid about 15 minutes after application, so theres no chance it'll smudge anywhere after that. the most it'll do is crumble off your hand if you move it about too much !
