Description History

Arguably one of the most iconic transport aircraft having fulfilled over five different roles across its aviation service. The most notable for gamers however is the AC-130 Spectre/Spooky/Ghostrider/Stinger II gunship. A simple heavy cargo plane fitted with an assortment of guns comprising of two 20 mm miniguns(no longer used due to incompatible targeting systems), a 40 mm Bofors and a 105 mm M102 Howitzer. Interestingly enough, the AC 130 is the culmination of an idea that started back in WWII. The Allies were considering the concept of a close-support aircraft and a new variant of the C47 Skytrain(also known as the Douglas Dakota) was outfitted with several .50 Cal machine guns. Intended to fly circles around an enemy force unloading upon them for the duration of the circling at a banked angle. The idea never reached desirable results however the concept didn't leave the board and would later materialize in the C-130 conversion program when the US was searching for a satisfactory ground support aircraft in the evermore frequent scenario of fighting insurgents where air threats were a non-factor.

Anyway, this was done using Garry's Mod and Photoshop. It's been quite a while since I did one of these but with all this free time coming up... Why not?

Have a great day everyone and as I always say to my fellow players on WoT and WT, have fun on the battlefield.

Yeah another very iconic plane especially if you are a fan of the Ace Combat series is the E-767. Most people would remember AWACS Ghost Eye from Ace Combat 6 and AWACS Thunderhead from Ace Combat 5.

Ah yes, I remember reading up about those back when I was three and glued to my Dad's encyclopedia of modern aircraft.

I'm quite happy with all the flak that Microsoft's been taken given how pompous they have been. Also their business model for the Xbox One was initially one of the worst I've seen so far from a high-end company.

Another machine you'd freak out if it showed up in WoT.

Even the 40 mm Bofors would rip up most tank with standard ammunition. Especially since a tank does not have substantial armour on the top.

What machine guns do they use now? (Ones you use in COD: MW)

The CoD version is still the old Spectre model with the twin 20 mm miniguns. Modernised versions(such as the Spooky and the Stinger II) do away with the miniguns and instead utilise AGMs.

The AC-130 design has always tended more towards the heavy support role where suppressing or messing up a squad of insurgents isn't the goal but rather the entire building needs an attitude adjustment. The miniguns were for the most part just a continuation of the concept of mounting machine guns on C47 Skytrains during WWII.

Although because most nations wouldn't be happy about military operations involving the absolute flattening of their buildings, the AC-130 is never really deployed full-time. Although just imagine what it would be like to unload on a skyscraper with one of these.

Well, I guess the CoD team needed SOME weapon that wouldn't murder the friendlies if they got close.

Particularly in hardcore. It was always annoying when teammates would throw a 105 shell on your area and the whole area was covered in settling smoke and dust.

Or your guts if you were close.
