‘I live in a town where the lights are on, but nobody is home. I live among robots.
This is not as scary as it might sound. The robots look and behave just like you and I. They even have all of the same “parts” as you and I. There are only two differences. First, they are all made of metal. Second, they have no minds. If you prick them they say “ouch”,but they feel no pain. They might even cry, but they do not feel anything.
Regular folks often stop by the town. I told a visitor the secret once, to which he replied “how do you know that they have no minds?”. He rushed off when I asked him in turn, “How do you know that other people do?”. ‘ - Adapted from Julian Baggini’s The Pig that wants to be Eaten.
