Description Anomalocaris. The Earth's first apex predator. Before anything crawled on land, the ocean was filled with our crunchy beginnings, and this guy was king. A four to six foot long super shrimp, devouring trilobites left and right.

Fourth and final design for the new batch of Cotton Crustacean shirts. What am I talking about, you ask? Go here - cottoncrustacean.com. Our Kickstarter campaign goes live in a couple of days! Soon, you can have this guy swimming across your chest.

Beautiful work, this creature is really strange it seems coming from an other planet, but it's only from an other time

Thank you so much! Hard to imagine that this shrimp was the king of the Earth for millions of years.

The hardest part is to imagine the earth at the time of this shrimp

Yeah, they were giants compared to just about every thing else in the sea at that time, as far as I know.

I always thought they were some 30cm long. But 4-6 foot... wow.

My favorite fossil of all. Of course, I also love the other Burgess odd-balls, Wiwaxia and Opabinia, but Anomalocaris is much more awesome.

Awesome! A lot of crazy things came out of that area. Wiwaxia are like the Star Wars version of Anomalocaris! Love em.

Hehehehe, that's a good one. I've always wanted to take a closer look at Wiwaxia to see if it's possible to tell wether it was in fact a mollusk or not. Someday, maybe...
