Actually this portrait is based on an old picture of myself. 10 years ago, I had this style. But living in New Orleans, then on an island, eventually made me feel like wearing colorful clothes. For the background I also used the interior of a painting of Jack Vettriano : [link] Actually the appartments where I lived , in France, often looked like it.

Beautiful painting! Her eyes are perfect. Traditionally red feathers symbolize physical vitality and courage.
There is an old Native American parable I heard a long time ago about a warrior that lost his wife and followed her into the Land of the Dead to try to bring her back. Since the spirits of the dead become invisible as they get closer to Land of the Dead, his wife's spirit put a red feather in her hair to help him track her and find her. I forget what truth the story was supposed to teach. Strange what we remember from our childhood. I look forward to your next painting!

Thank you Dennis for your comment and beautiful interpretation of the red feather. I didn't know the tale about the warrior looking for his wife in the Land of the Dead, and I like it. It reminds me of the greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice (one of my favorite), but the detail of the red feather in the warrior tale makes sense to me as regards to my own interpretation. I'll still wait a few days, in case other interpretations would come over, then I'll give mine. Thanks again
