Your portrait stuck out to me out of the Patti Smith work I've viewed on here; very honest and whole. I'm in the middle of reading "Just Kids" and am very taken with her. Great work!

She's one of my greatest hero's I was lucky enough to see her in th 70's when I was a teenager, she is a powerful performer.

Yes, that's awesome to see her in her heyday. I'm wondering does she still perform? I think she was out west in SF last year.

Yup she does still perform and I think if you do get a chance it will still be well worth going to see her.

Thanks Paul, if I actually do portraits I tend to be looking to capture something of the personality as much as the likeness. I found that easy with Patti Smith because she has always been so open with camera when she has done interviews and documentries.

I worship Patti Smith and consider her to be the awesome hippie aunt I never had. A true poet. You painted her quite beautifully.

Abigtreehugger In reply to RemLezar [2012-03-30 13:35:47 +0000 UTC]

I probably painted her that well because I feel the same way about her as you do, but scratch Aunt and fill in Big Sister. Apart from anything she is a very expressive subject to paint, she has so much character facialy.

your watercolours look ok to me and painting like this is as much a matter of practice as it is skill. You obviously have some skill with a paintbrush, work on your brush skills and build them up.

wow, this is really cool. It looks like she's coming out of the background, the blending is very nice, From what I know of acrylics.
Those are her eyes! Very mysterious. Good job on this one

I remember doing acrylics in grade 1 and 2, and boy was I bad , I was not an art person, I loathed going to art class. But you do a very nice job, which makes me appreciate art even more. I love looking at works of art, just not doing them, which is why the Louvre was so fun.

It is on my list of places to visit, there are works there that i definetly want to see in the canvas so to speak. I actually started of as an oil painter, but the big problem with oils is the time they take, sometimes took me 2 weeks between layers because of the drying time on oil paint.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dr-Vergissmeinnicht In reply to Abigtreehugger [2011-11-06 23:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Yea I can see that, but it's cool that some acrylics can give you the oil paint affect. The Louvre was amazing, you can be there all day and only see 1/4 of the art.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Abigtreehugger In reply to Dr-Vergissmeinnicht [2011-11-07 00:21:00 +0000 UTC]

Ah so you noticed that I use acrylics that dry like oils, well those acrylics also feel like oils on the canvas, they are not the cheap end of the acrylics price range but well worth it. Do you think I would be better off with a wheelchair to get round the Louvre then, both my legs will hopefully have been done by then.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dr-Vergissmeinnicht In reply to Abigtreehugger [2011-11-07 00:28:43 +0000 UTC]

If your legs are bad, I'd go with a wheelchair then...It was a lot of walking for me, I had to sit down every ten minutes haha. But it was nice cus I could sit there and enjoy some art. and those acrylics are great!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Abigtreehugger In reply to Dr-Vergissmeinnicht [2011-11-07 00:37:56 +0000 UTC]

If I go with a wheelchair 1) they won't piss me about the way they do when I am on my stick. 2) I got my own chair so no playing hunt the chair.

I have to say as modern day artists go Patti smith is my hero, I suppose in a sense I grew up with her, when she released her first album i was 13 so you can imagine she played a big part in the development of my conciousness. And thank you, your comment is greatly appreciated.
