Description I've started an epic attempt to make card templates for the MLP trading card game. This is the first draft of the first template I've made - the start side of the Mane card.

This may be planning way far ahead, but once the templates for all the cards are made, the plan is to make a self-contained card creation package. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to make it as a Flash application or if I'm going to make it as a template for Magic Set Editor . The pros and cons for each are:

Pros - Flash App

* Completely self-packaged, no dependencies or other programs to download
* Nothing to download
* Easier to use (pending the program design, of course)
* Embed the app in deviantArt

Cons - Flash App

* Needs to be made from close to scratch
* Take longer to make
* Requires learning ActionScript 3 (I do know a fair bit, but I definitely foresee quite a lot of learning as I go)
* Card design only (for the first version of the app, anyway)

Pros - Magic Set Editor

* Very feature rich
* Powerful and flexible card design tools
* Easier to extend (the templates are just text and images; anyone who knows how can extend the package for future card types)
* Easier development (just need to make a template package, not a complete program)

Cons - Magic Set Editor

* Fair learning curve
* Less accessible (people would have to download both the program and the template package)
* Not the most intuitive program to use in the world
* A bit derelict (its still used, the last update for MSE was over 3 years ago and the dev has long since moved on to other things)

So as you can see, I've got a bit of a decision to make here. I would love to hear any opinions on the matter as to which I should use, as well as any feedback concerning my card templates. I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff still to fix, and my eyes can only spot so much until they get tired of looking at the same shapes for hours on end.

Stick with MSE - if you're looking for good fonts to use, allow me to recommend a suite of Segoe UI, Segoe UI Italic, Segoe UI Bold, and Segoe UI Semi-Bold - which is what I use on my customts. Font sizes are usually 16-bold for title, 15-semi-bold for subtitle, 14 for body (14-15 bold for timing words/keywords), and 13 italic for flavor text.

Not that I'm not also a fan of the Segoe font family, but I'm looking more for a font that would match what's on the official cards. Segoe is the same style, but it's not thin enough to be a perfect match. (If there was a Segoe UI Condensed version, that would be just about perfect.)

I would vote for the magic set editor.
