In their situation I'd honestly just stay there & try getting to 26. I mean there is no guarantee this place exists, & how long would it even take them to get there?
Time is basically on their side, Wait a few years & become accepted or chase after the Free city, maybe die, & even if you get there, who's to say grownups are even allowed to live there?
(Once again the little lamplight debacle) So you get there with a few years to spare just to have fun a while only to turn around & head back the way you came anyway?
This is just me rambling over theoreticals... although the story would probably be allot shorter then.
