Edit 2014-08-20: I replaced the picture with the updated version. Find the original one in the Scrapbook now . In the first version the colors were a bit of and for some reason (time and 5 A.M. I guess) I didn't draw the Power Word: Shield that Rarity always was supposed to cast on herself. Also I added my dA name finally, yay.

Edit: Thanks(?) to someone who uploaded this drawing to imgur, see here . It's nice to see it spreading so far and fast, but I should have included my dA name for this case. Beginner's mistake.
Edit again: Thanks to Fancoral I now know that this was put on reddit by INELE11 (and thus on imgur). I see, I need to use the other sites and media more to be less blind. ^^ Thanks for the uploading and spreading. This is way more than I expected.

The history
Okay, I had some sleep and a lot of green tea, so let’s update this text.

I started to play Hearthstone occasionally some weeks ago and one of the cards I often dislike to see in Hearthstone is “Leeroy Jenkins” due to the absurd burst it enables one to do (although, there are way more ridiculous ways to burst). The original Leeroy Jenkins video however is just a classic (and actually it’s awesome to see that Blizzard put in all the Leeroy stuff over time).

In this context it was okay that at the beginning of the month I still had no idea what to draw for the July contest by the sketchponies . Sitting in the train for a short holiday at my parents’ home I was planning another drawing and suddenly Leeroy. With WoW vanilla being best pony (because 4 hour grinding for 8 hour raids was so fun...) a crossover with this reference was perfect and the effort seemed appropriate for the contest. There was one thing though I hadn’t reckoned with: The nostalgia.

Browsing the screenshots and 3D-models took so much longer because of all the memories. Yeah, good old times. So my initial plan to monitor the time I need for this drawing more detailed was abandoned pretty early. In the end it should have taken roughly 15 - 20 hours including the searching, sketches etc.

The drawing itself
My biggest problem wit this drawing is the fact that I had not enough time for a good background, so this is just the cheap version. Maybe I'll add another background later in a reworked version, but for the contest this is it. I also scanned it in without a background, but it just looked just incomplete.
Anyway, it was fun to do this drawing, especially the ponies. Ponies in armor look good and even more so with the old armor sets when raiding was relatively extreme and purples were something special (sorry Twili, but that’s the way of the world of warcaft). I had to cut some details due to time and decreasing sanity, but it was still fun and still very challenging. For those who want to know it exactly (and to make clear that the designs are not my ideas):

Applejack wears Battlegear of Valor and Arcanite Reaper
Rarity wears Vestments of the Devout and Trindlehaven Staff
Twilight wears Dreadmist Raiment and Elemental Mage Staff
Pinkie Pie wears Magister's Regalia and Staff of the Second Orb
Fluttershy wears Dragonstalker Armor and Rhok'delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers

Huge thanks to for accepting the drawing for the contest although it was too late in the end (seems I had an old deadline in mind).
And a shout-out to WoW Head and Thottbot for all the pictures, data and 3D models.

Just in case you want to know: This is drawn as usual with Faber Castell "Albrecht Dürer" watercolor pencils (wetted with a brush) and their "PITT artist pen" india ink pens (this time I was so happy to have the XS size pen ). And this time also the text is hand written; often times I add it later on the PC, but hey, I learned technical lettering, so I should use it on occasion. */
