Description

Aeyamar 's Harry Potter OC, Thomas Fabius, in his Yule Ball outfit! Tom is a descendant of Senator Fabius, an important figure from the magical community in Ancient Rome. I tried to give his clothing a Graeco-Roman flair to fit with his paternal lineage. His signature spell is a lightning spell, so I added an enchanted crown made from lightning bolts instead of laurels.

Tom having a Roman tunic and toga is probably the greatest thing you could have ever drawn him in as far as I'm concerned. My inner Roman fanboy is elated.

Professor Flitwick sighs to himself. Change the color of the drapery and add a fake gladius, and it would look like something a pretentious Gryffindor would wear. But there's no point in saying anything. The boy will either get over his silly blood-pride as he gets older, or he won't.

Tom is actually a muggleborn. Thanks to a friend, he learned of his Roman ancestry second year. He was incredibly happy to discover that his ancestor was a political reformer and crusader for justice. It made him feel connected to a part of his heritage he didn't even know he had, which is why he wears the Roman-inspired outfit. Tom is pretty much the polar opposite of a pureblood supremacist and actively fights against anyone who tries to discriminate based on blood status.

Blood pride is being proud of your ancestry, whether muggle, wizard, or something else altogether. It's quite narrow-minded to think pure wizarding blood is the only kind a Potterverse individual can be proud of.

Ave, Tom, pride of the Romans!

I think using the term "blood pride" in the context of HP is pretty clearly a negative thing

Yes, I know it's usually negative, and I purposely used it in the (perfectly valid) opposite sense, in order to inspire thought. Turn a cliche around and look at it from a different angle, and who knows what new ideas for story and characterization will come bubbling up?

using a term to mean the exact opposite of the term doesn't really inspire thought so much as create confusion

If blood means ancestry, then blood pride means pride in one's ancestry. That's making the term mean what it actually *means,* not what the silly narrow-minded wizards think it means. Wizards think only wizarding blood matters, but I don't believe that, and neither does your muggleborn character. He is proud of his muggle Roman blood. Using the purebloods' own term to express that pride is a slap in the face to purebloods who think only their blood is worth being proud of. It's not complicated; just open up the cliche and there it is.
