Man, how sad is it that my most commented on work is due to wank? Oy gevalt.

I don't actually know why the censor bar is there!

Me either, until I noticed that it was marked as mature. Fixed now!

Thanks for fixing it!  I like this one a lot, but I'm a sucker for autumn scenes!

I enjoy this very much! The pairing isn't my cup of tea, but there's something so relaxing about seeing Severus at ease with the world. Sirius's five o'clock shadow is just right!

Thank you, I know this ship isn't many people's thing, but I love the enemy to friends to lovers trope and it's easy to wrest really fun banter from them in my comics. (I also adore both characters, so there's that.)

Enemies to friends makes sense, though. Why are Dramione stories so popular? Drarry? It's the same thing, but you're taking it to the earlier generation of characters.

I'd love to read the story of how they went from bitter enemies to this happy image.

Also, I love your style for both men. I could easily picture them both dressing as Muggles like this.

For whatever reason, H/D and Dramione are much more acceptable than Snack or Snarry, maybe people think the older characters are incapable of change. That's a sad thought.

I have the entire series (what I was able to complete anyway) here: archiveofourown.org/series/324…

Caveat, some of the older art (from 6+ years ago) is not terribly good but it improves as things move along. If nothing else, the whole thing was a good learning experience.

And thanks. I generally don't respond in kind when someone is crapping on my ship (it has happened a lot in my long time in fandom.) but I'm feeling very ornery right now.

Snack? Is that what Severus and Sirius are called together? They seem more plausible to me than Severus and Harry, but everyone sees something different, I suppose.

I'm sorry you have to deal with unkind people so often for something that is unrelated to your talent.

Yup, it's the short version of Snape/Black.

I see both characters as being broken in very similar ways and also mirror images in some ways. As for Snarry, I totally get why people ship it since their relationship is central to the story and there is something satisfying about imagining two characters who are at odds with each other finding common ground and maybe more. It's part of why I love my own ship.

I've gotten fairly used to people doing that sort of thing.  It sucks since I put a nice amount of effort into that image and I like it very much but different strokes and all that. I just remain baffled that people feel the need to tell me that they hate something I love. It's their right to do so but it is tiresome.

Severus is happily watching bird poop about to land on Sirius's head. Or perhaps a meteorite. He would be smiling like that about either one.

Good god, you are a total twat.  I'm embarrassed to have ever liked a single thing you've posted.

Kat, this is amazing, as always.  The colours are beautiful, and those two look schmoopie that it makes me happy to look at them.

This is quite a rude comment, and one that has nothing at all to do with the art. Have you just had a bad day? Surely there is no need to be this immature about someone else's art.

Perhaps you could try imagining that you were talking to the artist in person, just two people who are both artists. Would you say something like this face to face when you're not anonymous on the internet? People say that the internet turns nice people into mean people, but I think we can all do better and prove that wrong, can't we? You're labelled as an artist here yourself, so surely you understand what it means to invest time into creating something, don't you?

janach In reply to frame321 [2017-05-22 02:00:32 +0000 UTC]

I would indeed say it to the artist in person, as a compliment. I love drawings that tell me a story, and this one really does. Acatnamedeaster has a real talent for drawings that tell stories. The story I see in the picture may not be the story she had in mind, but it made me laugh. Acat didn't seem to object, because she laughed at my interpretation as well. Once an artist puts her work out into the world, she has no control over how people choose to interpret it. If I am to be condemned for interpreting a drawing of friendship or love between Sirius and Severus (which is what I assume acat intended) as Severus hoping Sirius gets hit by a meteor, acat is equally to be condemned for interpreting a relationship JKR presents in canon as hostile in terms of affection. I don't condemn any of us. I'm just enjoying an amusing drawing that gives me a laugh.

No one was condemning your interpretation but your mocking (which is how it sounds to me, and apparently from other comments not just me) of the relationship the artist chose to draw and to share freely with fans. How hard is it to type "Not really my ship, but I enjoyed your illustrative style" instead of being sarcastic about the contents? And really, we're supposed to go along with JKR, who is always bleating about love being the most important thing, giving Sirius near-total redemption while giving Snape only the label "brave"? It's not really my ship either but I'd much rather see affection than canonical hostility.

I didn't know that your original comment was supposed to be a compliment. Maybe you and the artist are old friends who jokingly tease one another about each other's art. In that case, the artist would know that you meant well and would know that you were being complimentary. If so, I am sorry for interfering in your inside jokes with one another.

If the artist does not think you were giving a compliment, as it seems that they don't, I can understand why. I don't think that anyone would find your original statement about bird poop complimentary. Honestly, I thought it sounded like a kind of funny joke, even if it was a little mean-spirited. Your explanation/justification sounds much more like a compliment, saying that the artist has a real talent for telling stories in their art and that you love pictures that tell stories, which I think by extension would mean that you love this picture.

I do not want to doubt your motives, so I will believe you when you say that your intent to compliment the artist. In that case, you need to know that you are bad at giving compliments. A much better compliment, using mostly your own words, would be "Acatnamedeaster has a real talent for drawings that tell stories. I love drawings that tell me a story, and this one really does. The story I see in the picture may not be the story she had in mind, since I imagine that Severus is happily watching bird poop about to land on Sirius's head, but it made me laugh.'

That wasn't a laugh on my part.

I also wouldn't take what you said as a compliment as there is nothing at all in your comment that is complimentary towards the art, just ship bashing which is not a compliment at all.  It's pretty disingenuous to call that comment a compliment unless your definition of "compliment" is well outside the standard dictionary definition.

acat is equally to be condemned for interpreting a relationship JKR presents in canon as hostile in terms of affection.

Uhh...no, fandom doesn't work that way.

You're free of course to crap on my ship or my art all you want, as you said, it's out there and people can interpret it as they want but don't say that you're complimenting the work when the entire of your comment is just a snide commentary on the pairing and content with nary a word about the art itself.

I thought the "Hurr" in your comment was a laugh. I thought the picture was amusing, and I like amusing pictures. You do really wonderful funny drawings with stories behind them, which is not something every artist can do. And laughing at something funny *is* a compliment. I guess I'll just have to laugh at them privately from now on. I'll try to remember not to make any more comments about your art no matter how much I enjoy it.

acatnamedeaster In reply to janach [2017-05-22 14:23:01 +0000 UTC]

It's nice that you enjoy them and thank you for saying so but the fact that you never say anything actually complimentary about the artwork itself and just interject some comment that's the antithesis of my intention with the piece (which you know) makes you come across as insulting. It's just you having a laugh but not making any comment about the quality of the work itself.  Just "hurr Severus hates Sirius" which the vast majority of people would read as "your ship and art are stupid and not canon compliant." Totally gives me the warm fuzzies.

I also must be a really shitty visual storyteller if your comment is all you take away from that art.

I'll try to remember not to make any more comments about your art no matter how much I enjoy it.

I'll try to go on in spite of it...*insert eye roll*
