Description Whoo! I have a habit of getting things done last minute, lol! Anyway here's my ermazing MorningScorch Couples Contest entry.
The meaning of this cuddly pic is actually in de forms of a story, which I will graciously recount for you here:

---

It was the almost-silent whimpering that woke him. His first night in the warrior den, on his too-soft bed of moss, with his brand-new warrior name, Scorchtiger. And he was being woken in the middle of the night by somebody's whimpering and crying.
Irritated, he sat up, his ears and eyes searching for the culprit. It sounded like somebody was fighting with their own dreams, trying to stop them from bringing tears to their eyes. He tilted his head, tasting the sound, trying to find the voice behind the sobs. Normally he wouldn't have bothered, but there was something vaguely familiar about those melancholy sounds, like they had brought themselves to his ears just to say hello like a very old friend.
It didn't take him long to solve the mystery. In the corner, as he looked around, he spotted the irregular, short, quick rise-and-fall of a dark-furred cat's side as she sobbed, quietly, quietly. Scorchpaw's shoulders relaxed, and his ears fell back behind his head. It was Morningbird. That was why the sobs sounded so familiar... they belonged to his childhood friend.
Raising himself up on his legs, which, he had to admit, had become a lot stronger since he started his apprenticehood, he brought himself over to Morningbird's nest, which was neat and well-kept and smelled of girl-tears from the crying. She was curled tightly in a ball, all of her muscles tensing with every sob, but there were no tears. Perhaps she had used them all up already?
It took Scorchtiger a moment to realise that Morningbird was having a nightmare. It should have been obvious, with the scent of fear clinging stubbornly to her, like a leech that wouldn't let go. But he hadn't noticed. He didn't like to see Morningbird afraid.
Nevertheless, he knew what he should do, and he lay down beside her, pressing his own silvery-furred body to Morningbird's dark blackish one. He considered licking the bridge of her nose to calm her, but decided against it, realising that if he woke her, it would be very strange for her to see him lying down next to her nest. Instead, he lay quiet, listening to the sounds of her sobs slowly calm down, and, finally, her breathing return to normal; after a moment, he knew that her nightmare had drawn to a close.
Wether the nightmare had ended because he had been present or not, Scorchtiger didn't know. He wanted to think that he had helped somehow, that the feeling of his body so close to Morningbird's might have given her comfort. He hoped that she felt the same way he did when he was around her, a strange feeling that started in his gut and rose upwards and made him shiver sometimes.
When Morningbird finally lapsed off into a more relaxed sleep, Scorchtiger pulled away slightly, and looked over his shoulder to make sure none of the other warriors had seen him there next to Morningbird; sure enough, they were all deep in their sleep, some making muffled mews or moving their paws, lost in their dreams. He watched them for a moment, then turned back to the dark-furred she-cat he was lying next to.
They had both come very far, hadn't they? His kithood and apprenticehood seemed to have flown by, and here they both were, suddenly thrust into the roles of warriors. He tried to remember Morningbird as the kit she had been when he had first met her: always smiling, ready to cheer him up when he was down. When he looked at her, he realised that she really had not changed at all... her appearance had changed, of course, like her half-moon markings that had turned into two rows of grey, and the v-shape marking she had developed on her chest. But in many ways, he realised that Morningbird was still the same kit he had once known: frightened, confused, traumatised by the death of her family... and yet still so ready to smile, and to laugh, and to play.
And suddenly, all at once, Scorchtiger realised something that had never passed through his mind before. He remembered when they were both very young, and Morningbird had had to leave the nursery to become an apprentice. And Scorchkit had cried, and he had cried. He had been so terrified of losing her, even for just one moon, and he had thrown himself into her forepaws and he had pressed his face into the scruff of her neck, and he had cried.
He had realised why he had done that. After he had finally grown up, become a warrior... only then did he realise why he had been so afraid. It hadn't been the thought of losing her. He had always known she would not leave him. It hadn't been that he wouldn't have anybody to play with. That wasn't it at all. It was because he didn't know what he would do without Morningbird's strength.
Despite his bravado, his ego and his cynicism, Scorchtiger had always been weak-minded, obeying the incessant thoughts that told him he had to be the best at everything, being swayed by the opinions of others, allowing his loyalty to the clan to sway when the rogue attacks had happened. But Morningbird hadn't. Even though her family had been killed and she had been left alone, cold, hungry, orphaned... she didn't once let it take her into its cold fingers. Even as a kit. She had found the ability to smile, to trust, and to be happy, knowing that those things had happened to her. That was her strength... to be able to find a way to keep going. It was something Scorchtiger had never been able to do on his own, something that he needed Morningbird for. He needed the strength that came with her presence.
And as those thoughts crossed his mind, the young warrior's copper eyes swept over the face of his childhood friend, and he wondered if she knew what he had been thinking of just then. But how could she? And how could he tell her if she didn't? The silence had fallen over the warrior den again, Morningbird's sobs reduced to a soft, slow, steady breathing. That was her strength there, again. Despite the nightmares she had, those that were caused by the trauma of her past, she could get up in the morning and still smile as though they didn't matter. Because they didn't. What mattered was the present, not the past... and even if the past came back in the form of nightmares, it was still worth it to smile the next day, because the future was something that was exciting, and unexpected...
But maybe i'm thinking about it too much. Scorchtiger thought, sweeping his tail over the dusty floor of the den. Maybe it doesn't mean anything. Or maybe it does. He watched her sleeping eyes, as though anticipating when they would open. He would never really know, would he? That must be what being in love was like... never truly knowing anything, but yet knowing that there was something.
Morningbird was sleeping quite peacefully now, as though she had never had the nightmare. She didn't object when Scorchtiger placed his black-tipped forepaw over her own, and she didn't object when he held her tail with his own. And he hesitated for a moment, considering, then pulled himself close to her.
And he thought he should say something, whisper something, lick her, anything. But he couldn't. He had no idea what he should say, or even if he could manage the words if he did. So he lay there, beside the dark-furred she-cat, not quite sure why, but absolutely certain that he could not move away. And that was where he fell asleep, with his paw still on Morningbird's, and their tails still entwined.
"EY! Lovebirds! Up an' at 'em! Warriors don't slack off on the morning patrol!" Came the voice. Sorchtiger woke with a start, and a slightly irritated yell. Ratfang tossed a pawful of dust in his face, and he sputtered, clawing blindly at the older warrior, who had drawn back and was laughing to himself. Through all this, Morningbird continued sleeping peacefully.
"Shove it, street rat!" Scorchtiger growled. "None of your beeswax what i'm doing."
But Ratfang only laughed. "You got ten seconds to get outside before I confiscate your breakfast, whiskers. I out-rank you, r'member?"
"Oh yeah? Well, I may be a lower warrior to you, but you look up to me"
"Tsk. You won't grow very much if ya don't get any breakfast. My threat still stands, Scorchy."
"Do you wanna fight me?"
"Four seconds."
"Mousedung!"
"Say bye to your girlie friend, kittie pie! It's patrollin' time."
"I'llbiteyourheadoffandfeedittosquirrelsyoumangystraycatwhydon'tyoutestmeinsteadofhidingbehindyourbigwordsmistertoughguy"
"You'll need more than that to call down a magical unicorn and fly to never never land. You've still got to go on patrol."
"..."
"I win this argument by default."
"Shut it."

To those of you who made it to the end of the above story, I congradulate you for following my rambling and pointless nonsense of nonsensicalness.
<3 MorningScorch is sho cute lol
I think I shall name it Sunbeam shipping, cuz Morning, like the rising sun, and Scorch, like heat. What yu think? (It was just a suggestion ok, you don't have to agree with me! >:V)

MorningScorch is an unusual ship... but it shows how, while most loves can change, one will always stay the same. Morningbird, mature and kind, met Scorchtiger, mischievous and sassy, when they were both kits. Raised in the same den, it was difficut not to want to play together every day, and soon, Morningkit started to fall for her friend. When Morningkit became apprenticed, it became apparent that the feeling was mutual... Scorchkit loved her, too. But throughout their apprenticehood, the two were being pulled apart by the other cats and the tradgedies that occured in the Clan. But Scorchtiger, despite everything, is determined to prove that he still loves his Morningbird.
