Description

Eagle of the Eastern Front by Artist Craig Tinder (AcesInAction.com)

This Fine Art Print by Artist Craig Tinder illustrates the initiation of a tank strafing run by the Luftwaffe's most decorated servicemen - Hans-Ulrich Rudel in one of his many Junkers Ju 87 Stuka dive bombers.

The most decorated of all German servicemen during World War II, Hans-Ulrich Rudel completed 2,530 combat missions and was credited with the destruction of 519 enemy tanks, 71 ships, and 1 battleship. A master marksman, Rudel survived the war and was additionally credited with 51 aerial victories, despite being shot down or force landed over 30 times.

Details About the RELIC:

18 April 1942 - Pilot Leutnant Hans Buccholz & Radio Operator Unteroffizer Hans Bayerlien completed a dive bombing mission near Yuhov in the Kalouga region of Russia. A heavy barrage of flak forced them to crash land. Both crewmembers survived.

This original fragment was recovered from a large section of port wing (underside) of their aircraft which contained all of the access hatches and much of the original RLM 76 paint.
