Description Yes, snakes aren't the most attractive animals, but among them, this is one of the most beautiful and rare rattlesnakes in the world. The blacktailed rattlesnake has more yellowish tints to its body and it contrasts with the dark brown and black markings, most conspicuously around its tail. This is on the road back from the Catwalk.

(Edit 2014: Apparently these guys are of least concern as far as endangered animals go, but this species was STILL featured in a book about endangered wildlife of the southwest US that was distributed at a state park...or zoo, I don't remember...)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upon driving into the Gila National Wilderness (first in the US), you already feel its wildness. This place has witnessed some of the US's few wild jaguars and Mexican Gray Wolves, some of the rarest animals in the world. This place abounds in true, pristine wildness and biodiverse ecosystems, with some of the greatest numbers and unique species in the country.

This is during the monsoon season of September, where the place is cold enough to see your breath as it pours chilly water and floods the mountains and streams with life.

Awesome! What are the common names of other snakes in that taxonomy? Mostly other rattlers?

they are considered the scary ones in cultures such as the US but if you were to travel to areas like India for example they are'nt there they have one of the most venomous snakes also the largest venomous in the world the king cobra and although they have events involving these deadly animals they dont do the horrors that people do at rattlesnake roundups here in the US. If someone did what they did there the person would probally be killed for it by a very pissed off mob

I know! Rattlers are usually roughly handled simply because they're "undesirable" whereas they have much cultural and livelihood importance elsewhere.

My dad thinks they're hideous and terrifying . I think they're beautiful creatures, but I still like some other animals more.

This species is listed as Least Concerned. They have a very healthy population.

Gorgeous photo and a stunning rattler for sure.

Oh okay! That's really good to know that they're not as endangered as Mexican Gray Wolves (which is depressing).

Thank you for your information and comment!

And on a side note, the rarest rattler is the Aruba Island Rattlesnake.
