I'm pretty sure that I haven't seen one movie from him but I still love your drawing!
His expression is great and his beard looks like a lot of work. It's like he looks at the things he has created and is extremely happy about it.

I know, but I just took some random characters from a few of his films and put them all together I actually think Liam will be in BW only. I feel he's a bit too serious for all the colour

I think I recognized Β«Princess MononokeΒ» with the wolf, right? There also seems to be other characters that vaguely remind me of another movie I've seen but I just can't remember. Wonderful job you did here!

Actually it isnt, I just mixed a lot of characters together. So the girl with the gray hair is Sophie from Howls Moving Castle and the 'wolf' is actually the dragon for of Haku from Spirited Away Those small white things are from Princess Mononoke though

Hence memory is but reliable... especially mine . Yes, Β«Spirited awayΒ» (with the mud creature, right?), too, I remember it now. In fact a friend of mine let me watch a couple of Miyazaki movies and I've clearly mixed them up here . Though it's not my kind of movies I pretty much liked them. You can't really stay indifferent.

Yup that's the one! I really love how the films arent all about morals and how good wins over evil; how they arent Disney. I love Disney, mind you, but it's refreshing. And they are so beautiful to look at

I don't know if good wins over evil all the time but I'd say the Japanese sense of life is totally different from our occidental mentality and how we perceive good and evil. If you take for instance Β«Grave of the firefliesΒ» (which was not *made* by Miyazaki, that one isn't particularly optimistic (I'd even say it's rather tear jerking ). But if you try to understand Japanese philosophy (which I'd barely dare to claim I'm good at) you'll probably perceive the ending in a different way, like the brother and sister have left a shattered world for a better fate, together at last. At least this is how I'd understand it.

But yes I understand what you mean, Japanese culture is very different. Just look at the Animes that America gets from them, they always have to censure the blood, nakedness and language. Very different views on what children can watch.
