Thank you very much!
(Sorry this is really long... I tend to write too much. )
To be honest, I try my best to leave as much as my work open to interpretation as possible. It doesn't always work, and sometimes works against me, but I figure... I'd rather have my art reach out to a broad range of individuals rather than a select few. (Not saying that I actually have the capability to do that, but it's nice thought LOL!)
Anyway, originally this piece started from a "the sky is falling!" idea. People are always scurrying about worrying about the "falling sky", making such a big hulaballoo over nothing. And everyone is always concerned about time. Either there's not enough of it or too much of it. But, time is irrelevant and the end of the world is inevitable... so fretting over it never does anyone any good.
So, I used the clocks in the sky, which are all set at different times and are all styled differently, to symbolize the previous idea! The clock that's on the ground is slightly askew and misshapen... broken, more or less... and of course we're all obliged to fret over it and try to bend down and fix it.
The model was kinda hard to find, but I think she plays the role very well. I tried to go for a more "fancy" feel. She's all decked out in her upper class gown and corset and mask -- which in itself is all a piece of art -- and it hides her well. So I guess she's kind of my "portrayal of the average individual".
I wanted her house to be a bit more run-down, and an older style home just seemed to fit the bill. Also, the house combined with the model give the photo a Victorian feel, I think/hope, so that to me also kinda symbolizes that the whole "sky is falling" chicken with it's head cut off sort of mentality has been here a long time.
The raven was meant to symbolize a bleaker outlook on the whole situation, juxtaposed with the candle in the windowsill which was meant to represent hope, despite all of the hulaballoo.
(I was also trying really really hard to find a job when I made this, so I'm sure that had a lot of influence on it as well, haha.)
Overall, I'm pretty sure that the image is just trying to say too much... too many things to focus on... but then again, that kinda adds to the purpose. I know that my own personal interpretation is probably nothing like what other people interpret it to be, but that's okay with me. Again, sorry for this being so long... but hopefully that explains things!
