I do think that about some of my art, I just don't admit it. Usually, it's me being my own worst critic.

Considering myself still pretty slow at drawing, I just hate when you see posted the Mona Lisa and then in the artist's description βwarm up sketch, done in 15 minβ.
I'm just coming to kill you Γ¨_Γ©

Precisely! I really don't get why they aren't all that thankful for what they've learned up to that point

For me that is usually my low self-esteem.

one thing I learned in my art journey so far is that.... nobody is pro in the start =w=
Sure there is some talented artists and some less unfortunate. But still, we all at times tend to downgrade ourselves a bit. You go look at an artist who has been doing it for years and you compare yourself, you feel like..... like who gives a Fluff on what you make. Even so, if we learn to push that downgrading feeling aside and keep moving forward we too can learn to become more appreciative. Then when we reach a level at the higher and better artists, we tend to feel.... well... that are art is still not good XD
And well, in my belief this is good and bad at some point.
Good because it motivates us to keep going and keep learning, and its bad bad because we can get into SERIOUS Art depressions to the point of giving up or suicide. Its tough being an artist in a Community where its filled with artists at different Levels.
But Hey, that is what we have friends for. To help one another, guide one another, and to lift one another. Sure the artist may not be good, but your friend can go to you and say, Hey don't feel bad. Your getting there and you will do great! And some will help too with art. Depending on the Level.
But overall I like what you stated here Eric. Very motivating. And in times like these, its good to have good motivators in the Art Public

I find there's a difference between modesty and attention-seeking. Arguably, it might be hard to tell the difference in some cases, but when the artist harshly self-criticizes themself in a broad sense without any explanation, or very little explanation, that strikes me as fishing for attention

Ahh, I understand, if someone said "I honestly think the line-work could've been more tidy" or something similar to that, you'd be more forgiving?

Sure. They're being critical, but they're also putting it to good use. They're analyzing their own work to see what can be improved for the next time.
