For this day's daily drawing, I drew a long-neglected character of mine. Her name is Qimi and she’s actually the oldest character I have.

She started off under the name of Kimi and was.. a Neopets character. All the way back in 2003. Over time I gradually changed her from a Neopet into various other things - so many that I actually don’t know how many stages she went through. At some point she became an “alien”, a member of an alien species I made up and called Exoumians [because I was a stupid child and just smashed letters together into pronounceable words at the time]. The design of said race has evolved over the years - they used to have much shorter faces, four arms, and weird shoulder protrusions.

Now? She’s become a part of a specific universe with another set of characters I created - specifically a set of air pirates . More about that under the cut.

Qimi is the whole reason Altair even became a pirate - she took him in to be part of her crew back when she was in her prime as a captain, and when he was a very young homeless teen. As he got older he got more and more rebellious, constantly challenging her decisions and bickering with her over almost anything. This eventually led to him outright leaving with a few members of the crew in tow; he tried to rally everyone to mutiny, but he couldn’t get enough of the crew to go along with it. He formed his own crew, and after years of being in the circuit, as it were, they became each other’s biggest rival. Constant competition led them to eventually try to come to an agreement as far as which islands were whose “territory”, and under what circumstances they could breach those boundaries. If it was anyone else Qimi probably would’ve just driven them out, but because it was Altair, who she’d practically raised into a young adult, she was willing to compromise a little.

Because of the distance between the two, once Altair wasn’t in Qimi’s presence all day every day, the two grew to be more tolerable of each other and even meet up at times at local pubs. Sometimes to discuss the violation of territory boundaries, sometimes just to unwind with their respective crews. Often a mix of both.

Qimi became less active as a pirate captain and transitioned into being one of the ones in charge of the black market of the islands. Because of her long history with the underside of the society there, she has a great amount of respect. She works with Altair and his crew as far as ensuring that she gets what she needs for her business, in exchange for a fairly reliable income and a good word with potential employers.
