Description

Do not use, copy, or repost without my express permission. I’ve had too many run-ins with people doing it in the past.

Looks like Bonnie and Virgil are out mapping something. And Virgil is giving some anxious input. He might be concerned about getting back home before it gets too dark.

I wanted to do something with these two, but grown up. So here they are. Bonnie's interest in cartography has gotten to the point that she tries to map just about anywhere, and Virgil usually helps out with making sure the maps are accurate - he can catalogue, after all, and he also has pen nib index fingers and can help actually draw out things. Virgil has taken to carrying around pot of ink tied to his side [influenced by the concept art for 6 ] so he always has some in any situation. It's mostly for when he's hanging out in the library and going from book to book - having to lift and carry ink around in your arms whenever you switch books is very annoying.

When Bonnie goes out to map places she usually takes Virgil with her because he has a more photographic memory, what with the ability to catalogue, and she's less likely to get lost if he's around to make sure they're passing by the same features or not.

The background was something added in with Photoshop; in the sketch I scanned there's nothing that would indicate a background. I feel like I upload way too many colored sketches that have boring, white backgrounds, so I threw one in here to make it less. Boring.

Bonnie and Virgil are mine,
3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and stitchpunks are Shane Acker's.

I love how you can draw your characters in such natural, human-looking poses. You make the kind of pictures where no description is needed to understand what's going on, that's really awesome C:

Love these guys' designs, Virgil's especially. Very creative blend of their parent's designs!

Those are actually watch towers. You can see several in the background in the film right after they blow up the factory, and they're doing that dramatic pan / turn-around shot of all the surviving characters, as they stop to look back on the burning-down factory. And you may pick up on a few other similarities between the landscape here and the one during that particular scene in the movie.

Dammit now I want a steak. |:

yes I know right? (in regards to the delicious beef product)

Hmmmm...you know I must say I don't remember catching them, all I can remember at this point was the...cell towers?

Electical...line...towers....god what were they? I'm sure you know what I'm talking about...relays? Ugh now this is going to bug me.

The point is, it looks very nice, and it is true, you do have a lot of really nice completed character works that just float around in this big white void. Perhaps what you could do since you have a bunch of sketchy unfinished-style things, is get a bunch of sketches of multiple backgrounds and scenery, which you don't have to color and texture and whatnot, and keep a stockpile of them so that when you make a really nice finalized picture of a character, you can access that cache of backgrounds- or possibly multiple pieces of several backgrounds- and put them in with the characters to lose that "white void" look?

That's not a bad idea! I know I've tried messing with wallpaper-looking backgrounds on things before, that didn't turn out half bad. I may have to slink around and amass a collection of stock images to use just for these kinds of situations.

I love these guys' designs sooooooo much *~* So reminiscent of their parents, and yet unique to themselves The colour schemes are fantastic! It's great to see them all grown up too Ironically I'm also about to submit a grown-up/upgraded pic of one of my OCs too; totally not copying you, just a liekwoah coincidence XD

Thanks! And that is quite the coincidence. xD But not a big enough one that I'd accuse you of copying me. People draw pictures of their OC babies grown up alll the time~

EEHEEEE I'm SO glad you're not the only one who draws from unused concepts for certain things. 8'3

I just love these two, they're so cute~ <3 And I feel your pain about uploading sketches with boring backgrounds... Thankfully this one looks stunning~ Have I ever told you how much I absolutely envy your coloring skills? D: I probably have, but still, it never ceases to amaze. <3

It also just ASTOUNDS me how natural the textures look on your punks. I don't know if it's just my eyes playing tricks on me, but the light-play on Bonnie's fabric looks so... amazingly realistic dksfjhaew. Is there some kind of tool you use to get that effect or am I just crazy? .3.

Thaanks~ That all means a lot coming from you, given how amazing your own coloring and backgrounds are. I love looking at all the things that didn't make it into the movie, and sometimes using them in my own 9 art. There are just.. so many things!

Well, as far as the textures go, the herringbone canvas texture I found that I used for Bonnie was quite hi-def. And all I did was set it as an overlay on a different layer underneath the shading and above the flat coloring, and set it so that it was at a lower opacity than 100%. I'm not sure why it works as well as it does meshing with the lighting.

Wow, that's mind-boggling... I can never seem to get it right when I try to texture my characters, hence why I never do it. XDDD I just find it so amazing how natural yours look. <3

This is absolutely beautiful Acro! The textures are great as per usual, but the lighting against them is simply amazing!
