Description
This is a cover for a German Metal band called Xiron.They wanted me to do a painting based on the story "The Picture of Dorian Gray" written by Oscar Wilde in the 19th century.
They left me nearly total freedom (I just had to hit the topic) and only added the idea of that foggy ghost/demon faces in the dark areas.
Acrylics on cardboard, 37 cm x 38 cm (maybe 20 to 25 hours of painting)

I always refer to this book, teasing, when someone seems amazingly younger than their age! I tell them they have a painting in their attic that ages, but they don't!

I love this, it also reminds me of the Haunted Mansion at Disney World. In the front parlour one has a changing painting of the owner Master Gracey, this totally reminds me of it!

I totally love the composition/lighting and the overall expression, you've really captured the sense of haunting here - but I've always thought of Dorian Gray as looking younger, more handsome and maybe a bit effeminate.

Yes, the face was a problem. I took a photo of an older man (maybe 50) for reference, made the nose a bit smaller and combined it with a photo of myself (with lighting from below). I left out the lines in the face but it still doesn't look really young.

You just keep getting better and better, this is awesome. Those ghost things in the background were a great idea by them, but what struck me most here was the lighting - the candlelight is so damn realistic, and the way it amplifies the guy's facial features is marvelous, quite shocking. I love it! Keep it up!

nice. i like. have you seen the drama of 1945 with hurd hartfield and angela lansbury? well, you did very good. you brought the feeling with those colors, the smirk of the man's face, (of fear) the smirk-mock on the portrait's face, (of power over him), the glow of the candle lights. . .i recommend you see the movie. they tried to stick with the book.

This is amazing. I've tried to cover this topic before myself - but youdid it better than I ever could. Presumabley the man looking at the painting is Dorian himself? It's really chilling with the colours you chose. The ghosts are a nice touch.
