gotta remember only the most extremely advanced and rare ties ever had any shields. That's why an Xwing or Awing could stand up to a number of ties as long as they weren't completely out flown. The ties could land multiple hits to be ablated by shields where the rebel pilots land one solid shot and at least puts a tie out of commission.

None the less the Tie fighters and interceptors had at least in Specs the ability to do heavy damage to shields. I honestly hate to say this but the X-wing and A-wing have more plot armor than actual armor and shields.

Thank you for the critique! The design credit goes to amazing Alfred Wong who did a really great job redesigning it back in 2002. We will see an A-wing in episode VIII but I think it will be pretty much the same as it was in old trilogy. It's a shame since it's pretty much my favourite ship design of all time.

I often wonder if Lucas regrets selling his rights to the Star Wars franchise to Disney, who have pretty much destroyed the entire Star Wars Universe with their idea of what it should be, not what it had evolved into since 'A New Hope' came out all those years ago.
I absolutely love the A-Wing fighter, as its simple design and tech makes it more than a match for the Imperial TIE Fighter variants.
Next to the Y-Wing, this is my favourite fighter craft available to the Rebel Alliance, much more aesthetic in my opinion, than the A-Wing, and far too under-used in the films.
It's a perfect predatory craft, with a beautiful simplicity to its profile.
a wonderful piece of art, with a simple but eye-catching background, too.

Thanks
I'm pretty sure he's baffled about the things that Disney is doing. I have TFA and Rogue One art books and it seems that the most interesting ideas were rejected. I will surely do some of the concepts as 3D models because they're really good. If I ever find a cheap used TLJ and Solo books then I will get them too, just because it's interesting what has Disney rejected in order to put the most boring A-wing design in the new trilogy.

I love what you've done with the classic A-wing design. Can we see it in different scenes, and from different angles? I'd love to see more of it.

There's one more shot of it uploaded by the commissioner, but it's with a different paint job :
I'd love to go back to it and render it out from different angles, but there are no plans currently.

Well, that doubles the number of images of this design.
Hope you get a chance to render those different angles. I'm curious what the back and bottom look like.

It's an alternative take on the ship, with the company taking project and adjusting it (see different engines, fins and weapons)

Wow! What a beautiful design. I especially like the subtly modified lines of the cockpit. Masterful, and way better than earlier versions. Of course the rest of the design (and the render) are great too. Well done!!

Only a few items of lore I wish to point out.
The A-Wing was made by Kuat Drive Yards, not Incom. Incom had gone under just after the X-Wing made it out of prototyping. its designers went over to the Alliance, but the corporation and its holdings were taken by Subpro. Kuat also made the Victory and Imperial Star Destroyers, and the Nebulon-B frigate.
The A-Wing was tiny. like... Minuscule. Overall, it should be the same size as the neck and cockpit module of the Y-Wing. (we see them sitting side by side in the hangar in Return of the Jedi, which is where I am basing that comparison) There is a tendency to want to imagine the A-wing as being much larger to keep it in-line with other Alliance fighters, but every example we have in RotJ has the X-wing as about the size of an F-104 Starfighter (present day, manufactured by Lockheed, not anything in-universe), and a Y-Wing is the size of an F-18 Hornet, while the A-wing is about the size of a large pickup truck.
I know you said it's modified, which is a great way to dismiss a lot of the deviation from the original form, I'd only say that the chassis wouldn't have grown that significantly with modification.
The traditional A-wing has a pair of "slots" on the sides of the nose. I realize it may have been a style choice to remove them, which is totally reasonable. the already burly engines look like they hit the gym never skipping leg day, losing the separated ring at the exhaust in favor of a more traditional set of pressure vanes not to get too much science in the science-fantasy, but this is a solid design choice over the original. The fins on the engines look like they have either been shortened, or, more likely, the aforementioned vanes and paneling to close the ring have been added on top of the original design.
From a standpoint of technique, the artwork is marvelous, and shows great use of the environment, textures, and color palate seen in Mcquarrie's concept art, making the fighter look like it belongs in the surrounding environment. Artwork, especially concept art, varies greatly from the finished models in the movies, so this is a completely valid interpritation of the A-Wing, and I overall really like the composition. Sorry if I went a little purist, and super-nerd earlier.

Nice! Big fan of Alfred Wong, nice to see his name floating about.
A-Wings are actually Kuat Systems Engineering, btw, not Incom.
Blue is, IMHO, the best colour scheme for the darters.

I went the EU (Legends) route rather than Canon, in which Alliance Underground Engineering, and then later Incom, designed, built, and fielded the A-Wing.
