was the winner of my Christmas Kiriban contest, which, due to my complete inability to do math, actually ended in the middle of January. Anyway, Quarrios managed to snag the screenshot of the big two-oh (oh oh oh), and asked for a picture of this guy, his City of Heroes character Titan Torch.It was nice to do some straight-up superhero work, I've been doing other kinds of stuff for awhile now. I tried to follow the basic David Finch philosophy, and have the hero feel larger than life. Also tried to give some character and personality to the background folk, so they didn't feel like "background folk", a trap I've fallen into before. In the end it feels a little cramped; I think I was a little too eager to fit a million things in, but I'm mostly happy with it, and I hope Quarrios is as well.

I have to join the chorus, this is an awesome piece of work. from the hero to the background and all the extra bystanders...this is excellent! great composition and it tells a great story!

It's a terrific action illustration that certainly has a lot of elements, but I don't feel it's cluttered or confusing at all. The hero himself and his fire effects look good. I like the reflections of the flames on the police car and taxi. The innocent bystanders aren't generic background folk, you succeed at giving them distinctive looks. If I had to pick out elements to change, I might suggest using more shadows to indicate Titan Torch is the light source for everything else in the picture. And the pose of the police officer by his foot looks slightly awkward and elongated. But still, a dynamite illo !

Larger than life is a very apt comment considering the guy is towering at abouts 9-10 feet (and gets bugged about it just as often as his flaming head). In CoH game terms, maximum height and legs.
But, do not be concerned, I don't think I can be any happier than I am seeing this. I'm beyond proud to have this go into my collection.

Very nice. I think the reflection on the window could be improved, its a little too "non-reflective" in places to with that glare from Torch. Of course that's nitpicking for critique sake. Its a very wonderful piece.
