Description
An invitation card of a series of promotional material I created on summer 2012 for a mixed arts exhibition in Athens organized by DESARCH Productions, including Architecture, Sculpting, Painting, Drama, Film, Comics, Music, Proze/Poetry, Photography and Dance. The performances (Music, Dance, Drama) were taking place between the static exhibits while the recorded poems and films were being acoustically and visually repeated in the exhibitions rooms.

The general topic of the exhibition was "Shadows in the city" which was to be interpreted freely by the artists.
My design concept was vagueness, haziness, an abstract representation of the "Shadows" topic without specific and clear representative elements that would force specific assumptions and expectations about the event. After all, the topic was loosely obeyed by the artists, and their interpretations were so diverse that I felt that any pragmatistic approach would lead to mess and bloat the design.

So the poster itself conceptually becomes a translucent back-lit & side-lit screen/cloth with objects floating behind it at variable distances or pushing against it, their vague undefined shadows and highlights becoming compositional elements. You can see the whole event is about shadows, but the shape, the kind, the state of the entities owning the shadows remains undisclosed, impossible to discern. Only the absolutely necessary elements (the title of the exhibition and the kinds of arts participating) were positioned close enough to the cloth to be discernible, yet slightly rotated or distorted away from the screen, their end letters fading into the vagueness.

The image was digitally created using "physically-based" rendering software.
