The rough texture is nice with bronze, brings more life.
I have done that, full asleep in middle of certain games, the music is to soothing in those two.

one wonders why the gamer is so buff. i thought these lazy people were on the verge of physically wasting away, or getting unseemly fat?

meihua In reply to gardenhoes [2011-02-08 05:58:07 +0000 UTC]

Psh, stereotypes. All of my friends are gamers and not one of them is obese or even nearing overweight.

gardenhoes In reply to meihua [2011-02-08 06:27:23 +0000 UTC]

i think people engrossed by video games have a tendency to neglect their bodies. eating fast foods and consuming energy drinks, while it may not lead to obesity for some, can lead to deterioration of the physique for many.

not sayin' videogamers are fat. just saying they can neglect their bodies being as lost in video games as they can be... instead of being ripped like this guy in the sculpture.

meihua In reply to gardenhoes [2011-02-08 06:33:18 +0000 UTC]

I think people who have the perseverance to devote a lot of time and effort to playing video games well, have a tendency to do the same in other areas of life, such as eating right and exercising often. Of course, it may be survey bias, as almost all the gamers I know are intelligent people who attend(ed) prestigious colleges

I agree with your comment about the "other side" of gamers. I finished placing a comment on this piece about the almost inaccurate stereotypes being spewed out.
I am a very avid gamer myself, and although I do fit the "never really go out" stereotype, I have never neglected my body-- nor any (except one) of my guild mates in our small raid guild.
With that in mind, I know the piece is meant to be satirical, but I don't take it as such.

sure does sound like survey bias to me. and smells like it too.

The whole body of work is about that. Grecian imagery combined with modern tech to change the original context of the imagery.

Sleeping Gamer is from a body of work discussing how technology changes how we interact with our world.

It is from the Barberini Faun or Sleeping Satyr. It is bronze, and 1/3 life-size. I wish I could respond individually to all of the kind posts about this. Thank you all.

Gamers only wish they that body. I would love to see this depict the "typical" gamer more accurately. That would have been more hilarious.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamReederSculptor In reply to asiah [2011-02-08 05:22:14 +0000 UTC]

you are right! unfortunately, it would not correlate to the Barberini Faun if it were more "gamer specific".
Then the concept would be ruined.
