The final cover art for LIVEWIRES #6, the final issue of the 2005 miniseries I wrote and laid out (and occasionally penciled and inked) for Marvel.We're seeing Ryan Kinnaird's fine colors, here, over (a scan of) a commissioned sketch I drew of the character "Stem Cell." Behold the original at:

...and see what Ryan had to deal with. Some serious work, on his part! On the other hand, this balanced out the rather lighter degree of Photoshoppery required for the previous cover, for LIVEWIRES #5:

...in which Ryan only had to color Gothic Lolita's eyes red, and add some glow FX!
Originally, I was going to do a fully inked illo for this cover; I'll dump the rough for that version in my "scraps" section sometime. I gather that time was running short by this point, though, as due to ongoing deadline crunches, I wound up penciling (and inking, here and there) about half of the pages in LIVEWIRES #4-6... So, in the interests of saving time, I decided to go with a colored con sketch instead of an inked piece.

i bought every issue of livewires. it was funny as hell. it does sadden me to hear that there will never be a 2nd run, got to get that TPB.

So there won't be any more? Damn! Ever since I learned that Hydra is a Satanic organization, and that they are priciply responsible for at least 60% of Logan's various miseries, I have been looking forward to some group that could specialy give them the comeuppence they so richly diserve. And the Livewires would be their worst nightmare (after Jesus)! Here is an utterly dedicated enemy whose minds can't be fucked with, and who have no souls to loose or tempt or bargain with. But now the most we will likely see of them is occasonal cameos like Howard the Ducks. *sigh* I guess we'll just have to wait for Jesus.

dunno how many people mention this to you, but the design of the eyes is probably my most favorite part of these character designs. it's a magnificent detail that adds a lot to the character, probably moreso than any other.

Like the color in her eyes, red with black and her glasses give her a more human face and then scar over her eye, give her the traditional evil-good sort of look

Did I mention that I purchased the entire comic series run, two copies of the TBP, one for me to read, re-read, re-re-read till it fell apart.. an one for my Boyfriend?.. who has been enjoying it enough to complain that marvel should give another try...

The ink version is good - it shows off the details of the musculature a little better, maybe. But the eyes and 'blood' here make her seem extra-inhuman. Cool!

Have to admit, I don't recall ever considering the rather obvious question of why Ryan stayed away from coloring her hair red... You're certainly right that this draws more attention to her eyes. Good call!
