The Classy Doctor. Almost the Steampunk Doctor. I love drawing this guy, and it always makes me sad he didn't get more time to shine in the role. Not that I'm disappointed that it passed to Eccleston, not at all, I just miss the opportunities old #8 never had.

My favorite Doctor!  I'm so glad he's still playing Eight to this day on the Big Finish audios because he's just magnificent in the role.

While at first glance it is quite sad that McGann/Eight never got a longer stint in live-action, we actually dodged a bullet. Several, in fact. All the plans for the Eighth Doctor post-move consisted of boneheaded ideas like "his episodes will be do-overs of older episodes", "we'll meet his father, whose name is Ulysses", "he's one of the first Time Lords to ever exist" and so on. Pretty awful all around, really.

By contrast, the dozens of audio adventures Eight HAS gotten over the years are simply the best. Both the writers and McGann alike have really honed and refined the character. Can't help but smile when Eight's around.

Wonderful picture!

That's interesting, I never knew much of what the showrunners had intended. It was the audio dramas that made me wish he'd had more screen time, but I guess that wouldn't have been worth it if the show had sucked.

I still remember watching the TV movie back in '96. I was ten years old and it just blew me away, turning me into a Doctor Who fan for life! It is a shame McGann never really got a chance to continue with the character on TV but at least he got to shine in the Big Finish audio plays and we FINALLY got to see what became of #8 during the 50th anniversary. Excellent artwork, sir. Keep up the great work!

He reminds me of George lazenby as James bond. A good job for what he had, just under used/appreciated.

Yeah, definitely. Great comparison, because neither were the best of the actors in the role, but each could have been wonderful for the specific things they brought to the character.
