This was a fun one. I'd been scoping out concept art and design work for the Deus Ex: Human Revolution game and thought it looked really cool. Read a review and it sounded like an amazing game. Then found out it was a First Person game and lost all interest. I can just NEVER get into those games; somehow I always feel even more disconnected from the experience when I'm given that FPS interface. Ugh.

Anybody else get that? Where you've been really interested in a game, but they made it in the POV that you just can't stand? Maybe I'll try DE someday... but I'm no longer psyched about it.

actually, you spend most of your time in cover which is in 3rd person. If anything, I'd say about 80% of the game, you're not in first person mode.

but still, fps is kinda overused these days.

Well done though, i love the main character of deus ex: hr! this is really awesome!

I liked this character design a lot from the first time I saw it. Going from 1st to 3rd person that much seems like it would get jarring. Meh. Not all games are for all people, I guess.

Thanks. I enjoy facial work most, so when I do a piece like this I can have a lot of fun.

FPS just doesn't do it for me, in general. The only one I've ever been able to get into was Half-Life, but that was more for the story. I find the floating hands thing to just be profoundly silly and not knowing where my feet are drives me nuts when I'm trying to get close to a ledge or something, so it's just hard to get into those games. I played Doom and Duke back in the day, but I could never really get excited about them (except for the BFG... who couldn't get excited about eradicating an entire room in one shot? ).

Preaching to the choir, man. I'm exactly the same way. 1st Person is just too limited, always feels too stiff, and yeah - a bouncing gun at the bottom of the screen at all times is kinda silly.

Play the first one, it's a way better game. You will like J.C. Denton more

It being a FPS does help with the immersion alot for me actualy. The world is so beautiful that i love looking at them through "my" eyes.

Plus the game does go into third person when you are crawling along walls so you can sneak better... and then go hack their personal emails.

Yeah, I saw that... it just made me wish it could STAY in 3rd person so I could actually enjoy the rest of the game. First person is so limiting and restrictive, I just can't ever get into it. And it always strikes me as "Fakey," which breaks the immersion. I prefer a cinematic experience I can lose myself in to an attempt at a more personal experience that tries to make me feel like I'm "IN THE GAME!!!" but which always fails for me.

Hmmm its a tricky subject since its so personal.
It kinda depends on the gameplay i think. When its a
slow sneaky game i really like the first person.
But if its a boombastic WOOOOH YEAH BABY game like
warhammer 40k Space marine it could only work in
third person.

Either way deus ex has a beautiful world that really
needs to be experiance, im sure you can find it for
cheap on amazon or something^^

What other kind of perspective should a 'first person' shooter have? Since the augmentations he's got would actually CAUSE there to be a UI, it seems to me that DEHR is one of the more realistic impressions

What kind of games do you play then? I am just coming at it from a purely-PC first person type of thing (Half Life, etc), so it's baffling to me I can't stand isometric 'action', I tried a couple older games like GTA but they were awful overhead things. 3rd person perspective that can be shifted into 1st is common for mmos, it radically shifts how you play when you change the pov.

Anyway - this caught my eye as I logged on! Because Adam = Yummy! Instantly recognizable, and very, VERY nice marker work!

The easy answer to your first question is that it doesn't need to be a first person shooter at all. I like 3rd person games; they feel far less clunky and stiff, and I can "get into character" better. Just about the only games I play are 3rd person RPGs, and occasionally 3rd person action games like Arkham City. And Rock Band, but that's another thing entirely. I've hated the first-person perspective in video games since Doom on my ancient first PC, and nothing they've done has made them more appealing to me.

Thanks for the kind words, it's very nice of you to say.
