Description
This is an illustration from The Rifter #40, the tenth anniversary issue of the magazine by Palladium Books.It's because I went to an art school and minored in Graphic Design, I know it-- but when I saw this guy's name, all I could think of was the Garimond font. Ugh... I'm a typography nerd. Gods help me!
Anyway, this is kind of a Manga moment for me, with a tentacle demon and the innocent little girl that's actually the demon in disguise. In the adventure this illustration is for, the demon takes the form of the little girl to sneak into the party and (he hopes) destroy and devour everything he sees.
So, yeah. Nice guy.

The tentacles are nice, and the googoo eyes on the girl are cute. Nice contrast.

It is the intelligence that make them so creepy, isn't it? If they were just mindless beasts, they wouldn't feel half as frightning.

I did read a funny comment somewhere that they were so common in the Palladium games that there has to be one running a convenience store somewhere which gives me a great idea for a player class

It's kind of part of the point of Rifts, on one level - all the variety of a galaxy-spanning Sci-Fi epic on one world: Earth. And the idea of a demonic monster who's content to just chill and tend bar is too good not to use!

I remember some old short story about a girl who thought she controlled the world. It was this 1950's world with car chases and seedy bars and she hated it.
Turns out the guy she is pushing around made it and liked it being a bmovie world
