Description A page from the 9th installment of Uniques tales: United We Stand, written, drawn, and colored by and and available TOTALLY FREE on www.uniquescomic.com [link]

This is the first time we've gotten to work with these characters since we started production on Rainbow in the Dark last spring, and it was so much fun to go back to them.

The story takes place in January, and Madison City (their hometown) is in Pennsylvania, so it gets COLD in January! Thus, some characters are wearing slight variations of their costumes for the winter months:

Scout has long sleeves, Kid Quick has a cowl under her helmet and bigger boots for traction in the snow, Telepath is all zipped up, and the plainclothes boys are bundled in jackets (Quake's got a scarf!). Just one more way we're trying to be a touch more real in Uniques - the weather changes in our book, and our characters react to it! SHOCK! AWE!

The snow looks great!
And alternate weather costumes? What a concept!

I know, right? I'm not saying we're revolutionary or anything, just that I'm surprised more comics don't do stuff like this. It's fun!

Love Singe's transportation position. He's so smooth. X)

And I, for one, greatly appreciate the application of basic sense in regards to cold-weather costumes! Rather refreshing to see, honestly.

Thanks. In part it was just a fun art exercise to think of what they'd wear differently, if anything, and make minor changes without doing anything drastic to their design. ALMOST put Scout in a full cowl, but decided it would be too much of a change.

Aw come on, the weather changes in other comics too.

For the Christmas issue, sure. Maybe Thanksgiving. But I've yet to see mainstream books that use weather as a factor in their storytelling, largely because they can't use TIME in their storytelling due to the fact that their characters can't age or grow in any real sense until the story dictates that they're suddenly a smidge older.

Nightwing's been in his mid-20's for more than 30 years. If DC had time pass to allow seasons, it'd become curious that he'd seen 30 winters without even rounding 35 years old yet.
