I snorted contemptuously and brushed past Lokeshwari, noticing with male confidence and satisfaction that neither she nor Khushi made a move to stop me.
“Useless Indian witches!” I mocked. “All talk and no action!” I strode forward, only to find my way blocked for the third time. Another Indigo stewardess had joined her two companions. This one’s badge proclaimed her to be “Vaishnavi”. “Good Grief!” I exclaimed. “Are you tarts androids or something? Is Indigo churning you out from an AI conveyor belt?” Vaishnavi did not smile.
“You have had three warnings from three separate flight attendants, sir,” the woman told me, “her brown eyes drilling into mine. “You are really giving us little choice. You must sit down NOW.”
My eyes blazed in turn as they flickered to take in the sight of the woman’s shapely and enticing nyloned legs. “Shouldn’t they be covered up, you little trollop?” I sneered. Vaishnavi looked back at me cooly.
“I’m not Muslim, sir.” she said matter of factly. “I’m Hindu.” I heard a distinct giggle from the direction of the other two stewardesses.
I set my jaw. “I am not sitting down without a whisky!” I said loudly, but for the first time a frisson of nervousness went through me…
