Description

"1:30 PM, December 15, 2002. AMF Headquarters. Location: Classified.

The rumors have proven true: the AMF has taken up where G-Force left off nearly a decade ago, and have constructed a new Mechagodzilla to defend Japan from kaiju attacks. However, this creation is somewhat different from the previous two: instead of relying on armor to defend itself from these monsters, the “Kiryu” unit uses amazing speed and agility to evade attacks, with speed obtained from its incredible new “Double-Helix” programming language based on genetic code – and it has obtained this genetic code from the recovered bones of the original Godzilla, which now rest within its frame. In addition to conventional missile and maser weapons, Kiryu also has a new superweapon: the “Absolute Zero” cannon mounted in its chest will freeze anything it contacts with at a molecular level, allowing it to be shattered at the slightest impact. However, the cannon also uses 40% of the cyborg’s energy supply, and takes several seconds to launch. Kiryu’s effectiveness has yet to be tested against an actual kaiju, but it seems Japan is in the hands of its most promising savior yet…

    6:05 AM, November 3, 2003

It’s almost over. From my vantage point, I can see the four kaiju standing in what’s left of the heart of downtown Tokyo, illuminated by the rising sun. Godzilla is completely incapacitated, exhausted from his 15-hour battle, nearly dead from Kiryu’s maser weapons and unable to retaliate due to the binding silk of the two Mothra Larvae. I have received a report that claims Akane has been ordered to finish Godzilla off with a final blast of the masers, but she is taking quite a long time to do so…

    6:11 AM

The Godzilla intelligence within those bones has resurfaced once more. Akane has lost control of Kiryu again. The giant is not attacking Godzilla. In fact, he is currently reaching down to his disabled foe, and seems to be locking him in an embrace…

    6:33 AM

Godzilla and Kiryu are gone. Kiryu has flown his foe out to the Japan Trench, and both kaiju have descended into the depths of the ocean. All sonar findings detect that they’re out of reach… for now. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I have a feeling that only one of these creatures truly wishes to die. Godzilla we will see again – of this, I am sure – but I would not be surprised if this is the last we will ever hear from that strange, sad beast we wrenched from the ocean a few years ago."

Reality check: This is Kiryu, the 3rd Mechagodzilla. I do not own the rights, Toho does, etc etc...

The thing that strikes me the most about the drawing here is the neck. Something about its proportions relative tot he face and shoulder is both very unnerving and very pleasing to the eye at the same time. Even if you're referencing closely and got those proportions from source, being able to convey them on paper without second-guessing yourself is admirable.

Hey, thanks so much! (and trust me, I did second-guess myself - many times. I'm just very good at erasing.)
