Indeed, it's been one of the best films I've seen thus far this year, and I definitely enjoyed it more than, say, Man of Steel. It's fun without being stupid, and isn't afraid to revel in the sheer nerdy awesome of its concept.

The flashback when child Mako was the only survivor & calling out to her parents was sad. When she first saw Pentecost it reminded me of Setsunas rescue from the anime MS Gundam 00.
