Description I own an old autograph of Brent’s with him as Data playing Holmes, so I thought that’ll make a brilliant first attempt foraying into digital painting in place of paints, pencils and conventional brushes. I took a lot of time with his hair and dressing gown, and was entirely done in Corel Painter 11 and PhotoStudio.

The arabesque red dot btw, is cloned from a scan of an antique book cover of mine. Just thought he needed to look at something while puffing on his pipe, like an illuminated piece of his fancy new wallpaper, pondering a new case. Elementary, Dear Data. I love the striking chiaroscuro Rembrandt type style and this just lent itself as perfect subject matter. The golden glow.

Feel free to download, use as wallpaper etc. for your personal use ONLY. AS IS. DO give credit & link back to this source if posting on blogs etc. Please do NOT alter/use/sell in any form anywhere. No infringement intended.

Star Trek The Next Generation is property of Gene Roddenberry/Paramount. Commander Data in image & name is essentially copyrighted, but not the name/word 'Data' on its own. However, since this is not taken from any online sources but my own, legally bought photo signed by Spiner I referenced to paint, there's no copyright on this work other than my own as creator, NOR the Sherlock Holmes name anymore since the Arthur Conan Doyle Estate have no rights on the fictional character in any form anymore as of 2014.

Wow! This is great, especially for a first digital paint, and I love the little arabesque red dot. Data looks great too--at first I thought this was an edited photo! Keep it up!

Thank you kindly. The original looks quite different, & then I still had the more 'soft focus' oriented technique unlike today. Thanks for faving!

You're very welcome!
Well, I quite like the soft focus, though your newer work is awesome too--your Tom and Loki works especially!
And you're welcome again! <3

Elementary, My dear Data.

This is really great. I love Data as Holmes. I must admit, Data's first encounter with the Sherlock Holmes myth was an absolutely hilarious episode.

Also, the episode where Data got his hands trapped in a Chinese finger trap. :3 (Inspiration? )

Any who, This is awesome. I really enjoy your gallery and art. Please keep it up!

Heeeey! I remember seeing that episode a bajillion years ago! And I remember thinking, "DANG. Data as Holmes? Could this get any better?" You know something, Data looks more like how Holmes is supposed to look than Robert Downey Jr does.

That is some gorgeous airbrushing. I thought it was just a touched-up photograph at first!

AdmiralDeMoy In reply to iamfergie [2010-03-30 18:06:01 +0000 UTC]

Nope - zoom it and it'll show to be a digital painting. And yeah, ain't that just too dandy that an android was the best Holmes? Elementary!

iamfergie In reply to AdmiralDeMoy [2010-03-30 21:49:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I looked at the full-sized version and I could see the individual brushstrokes. Well done indeed!

Brett was a pretty great Holmes, and I have an enormous crush on Rathbone. But Data as Holmes is just too perfect. I'll bet Holmes WISHES he was an android!

I'm sure he does! I like Brett & Rathbone too - but Data as Holmes is special!

Really cool pic, I must say.

Dude, I didn't SEE this until just now...
it never showed up in my inbox.
Brilliant!! As usual, you always seem to be able to capture that brooding look that plagues his face.
Another BEAUTIFUL piece!!

I love it when ppl call me dude - no really. And thank you very much for your glowing comment & faving my Data Holmes! And yes, I love ‘brooding’, maybe I should do my romantic Data pencil in digital too, hm… or Lore, hm…

KingdomofKara In reply to AdmiralDeMoy [2009-08-22 04:25:22 +0000 UTC]

o-o Sorry 'bout that, I call everyone 'dude'... it's my Californian residual lingo thing.
Ooh, that would be great...

AdmiralDeMoy In reply to KingdomofKara [2009-08-22 04:34:33 +0000 UTC]

I will consider it. I need a Lore too, obviously.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KingdomofKara In reply to AdmiralDeMoy [2009-08-22 05:11:29 +0000 UTC]

But of course. When is Data actually complete without our dear Lore?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdmiralDeMoy In reply to KingdomofKara [2009-08-22 15:58:27 +0000 UTC]

Dear Lore, finally someone says, 'dear' Lore, not 'evil' Lore, bad bad Lore, which he isn't in my (fanfic) world. So of course, yes, sweet Data without sexy Lore would never be complete, (or vice versa) I even said that in my own D/L slash. Now, what can I do with Lore, hm…

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KingdomofKara In reply to AdmiralDeMoy [2009-08-23 20:22:40 +0000 UTC]

Of course not!
And I read some of that... very enrapturing. O-O And I don't even generally support slash...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdmiralDeMoy In reply to KingdomofKara [2009-08-23 23:31:53 +0000 UTC]

Depends on the slash - most are short run of the mill things, but still more fun that all these boring official publications & tie-ins. ‘Enrapturing’ indeed. *grins*

Thank you very much for your very enthusiastic comment! I love Holmes too no matter who played him. But it just had to be sweet Data to show us that even (then) emotionless androids can give him another golden spin! And an extra thank you for faving him & the Brent 'jacket' photo.

TheGreatUndefeatable [2009-08-21 21:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Wow! That's fantastic--even on paper, I can never get the proportions that close, and NEVER in color. Also, the pipe is remarkable, and the smoke is very realistic!
All that setting aside the fact that it's just a downright adorable picture

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

wiekoh In reply to TheGreatUndefeatable [2010-12-06 12:29:04 +0000 UTC]

I second that. This will always be one of my favorites, because it's a good showcase of DeMoy's grasp of light. It's not just the tone and tint which make his face appear to glow, but also the way in which the strands of hair fade into the skin.

TheGreatUndefeatable In reply to wiekoh [2010-12-06 20:55:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes, her pictures seem to have a very angelic light and glow about them that is...beautiful.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

AdmiralDeMoy In reply to TheGreatUndefeatable [2009-08-22 00:16:08 +0000 UTC]

It wasn’t made on paper, though I wanted to do it in oil first. But that takes ages & in b/w pencil it would have looked kinda boring. This is a digital painting done entirety with Corel & Arcsoft software. The smoke was blobs of colour I fluffed out to look that, yeah, realistic. I used artistic license since the original has two smoke puffs, but it looks better this way. Thank you very much for your kind comment & faving Data Holmes. And my Brent ‘jacket’ photo too!

And no problem!! x3
