That's amazing work! I'm just wondering what blending mode or technique you use between 4-5 to get the colors onto your black & white rendering?

This is incredible! I never painted in greyscale to turn it to colors later, but I will try your technique Just one question: what do you do the lines layer in the step 3? you just disable it or you combine it to the greyscale layer and paint over it? The details that you add in that step are the differences in your picture.

This is great, and thank you for sharing. But it'd be a lot more useful if you could provide a little description. I think the most important thing everybody'd like to know is how you colour the grayscale picture, with what tools. It doesn't have to be an extensive tutorial, I know it takes a lot of time; maybe only a brief explanation of what you do so we can try and do the same to improve our coloring skills.
Thank you.

It's definitely interesting to see your process of building from greyscale to colour before adding the final lighting (and the final background). Kinda similar to my way of working too but I'm slower haha (coz I sometimes need to take a step back to re-tweak the tonal levels and all that....)

Thanks for sharing this! I looked forward to more learning processes like this one!

wow its like the whole structure changed between 2 and 3... do you do that alot? must be tiring..

Anyway great process, if only there's a video process, i'd definitely watch and recommend it. TBH this is my first time seeing this kind of process (grayscale -> flat colour -> touchups etc). I'll try it one day, thanks!

I love seeing steps like this that include the "dead layer/greyscale layer". It's like..the Flemish technique for the digital age lol. I find it silly when people say it's cheating. Who cares if the end result is good?

I've been trying to get the hang of working like this because I seem to get the overall piece down faster and with better values. I hope to eventually be this good at it as well!

I really wanted to see the process between stage 4 to 5, I did greyscale many time but I think I still have problem whenever I put color on multiply layer...idk, don't tell me no 5 is raw color because it's looks good already!

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

AdmiraWijaya In reply to Virus-AC [2012-01-10 11:47:02 +0000 UTC]

Step 5 it was just flat color,i use Layer blender "Color" to it,just make one layer on top of layer finish grey scale, you'll see the resold like in step 5,and about atmosphere step 5 was gone,i was just deactivate the layer, after you've done with the color flat, and activate layer Atmosphere again and use hue-saturate option to make it colored,Cause i don't use method "multiply" for coloring...

I think "color" layer will be better? 8D because I heard that is the most suitable layer preset to keep the value the same with the Grayscale version 8D

*sorry for interupting QvQ*

Yes,you absolutely right on this,I was using that method too,but in the end it depend on how comprehensive your grey scale are

Paleblood In reply to AdmiraWijaya [2012-01-10 12:17:08 +0000 UTC]

Uhuhuhu QvQ I always not satisfied with my colored version because it is too desaturated or just not fitting with the original color OTL

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdmiraWijaya In reply to Paleblood [2012-01-10 14:05:24 +0000 UTC]

you need to one more layer blend "Overlay" after layer color dude

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paleblood In reply to AdmiraWijaya [2012-01-13 14:04:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh? What color do you usually use for that overlay layer? just copy paste-ing the previous "color" layer or use another color scheme? OvO

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdmiraWijaya In reply to Paleblood [2012-01-14 09:18:50 +0000 UTC]

I use A color variation on layer "Overlay",it depend the part do you want to enhance your color

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paleblood In reply to AdmiraWijaya [2012-01-21 15:03:08 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh 8D I see 8D I think I should do more experimenting after this 8D

Can I ask a favor? can I sometimes consult or ask for input from you? 8D but maybe still later since I got UNAS to conquer OvO;;;
